ok, i am going to ask the hard question here. we brought in what, 6 new players or so this year. and now it has been determined, after only one year, that 3 of them cannot help our program. that is a pretty poor batting average, and not one that will build a quality program.

I agree that going 3 for 6 is pretty poor. I think Donlon reached on Cuffee and Balwigaire signing them in the late period last year. I think he missed out on the guards he really wanted and rolled the dice on them (along with Reggie) in the late signing period. The only thing that I find comforting is that this seems like it is Donlon's decision to not renew these player's scholarships and to find 2 players that better suit our system. I think he realized they weren't cutting it as the season wore on and he kept recruiting for next year. We know of several players we are recruiting. I'm sure there are several more we don't know about. I am hoping that Donlon makes 2 very smart recruiting decisions soon. I think there is enough potential on this roster to be pretty good next year if we add the right players. Based on who we are recruiting that we know about it seems that we are going after a guard that can score and an inside player. If we land 2 players that can be consistent contributors next year, we could see a quick turn around.

You might be right Fastbreak. I just remember the DDN announcing their signing. J.T. was listed as a 6'6" guard. Roddy was listed as a 6'5" forward. But Dolan is always talking about the 3 guard offense, which to me means that the 3rd guard can be 6'6" or less. I have also read that these two aren't as tall as listed, but they may still be growing at their age.

I don't care what position the 2 players we sign play. I just want to add 2 players that can score. Watching our offense last year was painfull. We need someone besides Reggie and Julius that can score consistently.

I made this same post back in February in the what Bob Grant needs to do thread. I think we are an impact recruit or 2 away from being really good. Look at our teams the last few years for example. Last year we were 19-14 and only finished a few games behind first place in the HL. Think about that roster. We had 2 impact players (Duggins & Evans) and a bunch of role players. Duggins and Evans were the only 2 players we had that could create their own shot. We had some solid role players but that was it. The year before, we finished 20-12 and in second place of the HL. We had 2-3 impact players (Evans, Brown, & Cooperwood) and several role players.

We have 1 true impact player coming back next year (Mays) and several potentially good role players. Reggie has the potential to be an impact player if he can increase his scoring some, learn to distribute the ball better, and do it all consistently. I honestly think he can and will be a consistent double digit scorer for us. If we add 1-2 impact recruits, we could be right back at the top of the HL again. Looking at the guys we are recruiting, I really hope we can add Cosey and Trench to our roster. I think Cosey would be a star on our team. Cosey, Mays, and Reggie are all guys that can create their own shot and create for their teammates. Teams wouldn't be able to focus on Mays. They would have to respect the other scorers on our roster. I think Trench is a solid big man that would mix in well with Pacher, Darling, and Sledge. Those guys are all going to be more physically and mentally mature. I think they will be able to rebound the way we need to rebound to run our system. I also think Griffins recently found 3 point stroke along with JT Yoho's great 3 point shot are going to spread defenses out the way Troy Tabler and Cooper Land were able to do. Our offense relies on having a few play makers, a few really good 3 point shooters, and solid rebounding and defense. I don't think we are far off from being a good team again, but we do need to bring in 2 players ready to contribute.

That takes care of Yoho's scholarship and allows us to add 1-2 more players. We really need to bring in another guard that we can count on to score and a big.

So is this J.M. situation off the table? I don't plan on posting some fake link, but I do understand that he's put himself on pace to graduate after spring qtr. Please don't ban.

Heard tonight that we are losing one more player. Hope it isn't true but the guy is pretty reliable.

Holy crap Vance Hall? Did I miss something? Don't have time to look through the backlog of posts right now but didn't think that Hall was in the runnings. I think he may be sorely missed.

I don't get the doom and gloom posts. A month ago there was a poll asking what our fans thought needed to happen this off season. 40% of the votes were for Donlon to replace players and/or assistant coaches. That is what he is doing now. We just lost 4 players. I highly doubt any of them are making this decision on their own. I think they were encouraged to leave WSU. Pritchett never saw the court last year. Cuffee rarely saw the court. Hall and Balwigaire were losing minutes in the rotation towards the end of the season. We didn't loose any players we expected to be major contributors next year. Griffin was moving ahead of both Vance and John in the line up and I think Roddy and Yoho would have moved in front of both of them next year too.

Now we just need to see what Donlon does with these 3 open scholarships. We have a top 50 JUCO recruit, a JUCO All-American, and a few other HS players interested in WSU. I see this as a chance to make up for poor recruiting decisions we have made in the last 2 years. Only time will tell.
