so we outrecruited nichols state for this recruit. Well, them and a bunch of div ii programs. nichols state has an rpi this year of 328. their average rpi the past three years is 291. recruiting players away from that level of program will not build a quality mid major program. the fact that until recently we had three players starting next year with a grand total of one scholarship offer other than ours really makes one wonder.

Why you keep posting on this board when you have very publically stated that you are no longer a Wright State fan really makes one wonder.

How many D-I offers to Norris Cole have? I'm asking rhetorically, but go ahead and do the research.

We didn't win tonight but the players played very well. To bad Hopkins got hit in head which kept him out of the rest of the game. Could have used him to give Benzinger a couple of rest periods. We will have a scoring machine next year if can be utilized correctly.

Loved the intensity that Mitchell showed...Looks like Benzinger could be one of the best shooters in WSU history if he stays, and stays healthy. Excited for the future of Raider ball. We just don't have anyone who can lead this team in crunch time and get a victory, but we can hit some shots...which is promising to see.
The loss tonight really puts us behind the 8 ball in getting a home game. We pretty much have to go into UIC and come out with a W for us to host a first round game (which would likely be against UIC). We aren't going to win @valpo, and a win against Milwaukee doesn't do us any good if we can't close out on UIC. But if we get S. Davis / Yoho / Thomasson, I like our chances to win both of those games...and that should be our goal. Get the unit back together, win our last 2 games, and bring back one more crowd for an opening round game against UIC and pay them back with a full strength squad, and take our chances in the tournament full-strength.

And if we can stay healthy during next season. This year the coach, counting the two walk-ons, went 3+ deep per each of his 3 guard positions, but only 2.5 deep for his big men. Then Sledge was gone and we were 2 deep for our 2 big positions. Then two more went down and now we are 1 deep for each position. So to get by they have to play softer, thus giving away a lot to the other team.
I'm thinking there are one or two scholarship guards that could be cut to beef up our front line. Will that happen?
Next year I'm thinking that Benzinger and Mitchell HAVE to start for us from day one. They both can score the ball and play hardball all over the court. What a duo to build around, and I can see Alstork being the other starting guard. Or, I don't know, we could elect to start a 6'6" SF, like Yoho, and then have a center, like Mike, and then a big power forward...but that idea will never fly.
Finally, I disagree with many here regarding Collie. Collie is a nice guy and works hard. I'm always happy when walk-ons get on the court, but I think the coach may be losing some winnable games by playing Collie sooo much. The fact is that Reggie is a 1000 point player. I was critical of him his first two years, but he really came around last year. As I recall he took fewer shots, shot a better %, and played pretty solid for us. This year I felt he regressed for whatever reason, BUT he has poured in 1000+ points to date. When you are losing games by a few points can you really sit a 1000 point player to play a walk on with about 200 minutes of playing time in his career to date and nearly 0 points? Call me crazy, but I don't think so. These recent 3 losses may have resulted from such a decision.

Reggie is playing hurt. He's playing at about 75%. I'm sure that's why his minutes are way down and why he wasn't in there at the end of the game.

good question ecb. but i do not need to research it. he got zero, nada, zip. and boy was he a find. that kind of good fortune may happen more often with big men, not sure. but you know that old saying, the exception that proves the rule. surely we can agree that if we were to consistently be signing recruits who were receiving no other div i interest, we would have a hard time being successful. can't we???
i do think bd has hit big on some of these freshmen. benzinger is looking great and i hope folks do not give up on evans too quickly. I think evans just needs time to develop. let's be patient with him.
i believe our recruiting should focus more on athletic bball players who are 6'6" to 6'8" instead of signing these six nine or ten guys who nobody else wants. there are a lot of those athletic forwards out there. I think r & s davis are two examples of the kind of guys that will be really good for us down the road. shame that s. davis has wasted this season due to injury.

Our league opponents are getting 3.25 more free throw attempts per game than we are, and they are shooting 76.4% from there compared to our 63.5%. We have to attack the rim to get free throws. That's not something I've seen this team do on a consistent basis. And even if they do get to the line, they have to shoot a better % in order to win these close games that they've been in. That is a very misleading stat (FTA per game). We trail at the end of games so we are forced to foul. Of course other teams will attempt more free throws, that a result of trailing/losing, not necessarily a cause. Now free throw shoot percentage, that's a whole other kettle of fish... One of Karena's challenges is that his game doesn't lend itself to foul calls. He won't get fouled on the baby jump hooks, his move to the basket tends to go under and around the defender, not thru. And since he's not a great free thrower, that might be motivation for him to develop a game that doesn't generate fouls.
