It's officially summertime now. I cannot remember the last drama free summer in Raiderland.

WrightStateFan is reporting on rrb that Jeron Lewis isn't coming to WSU. No reason given. I think the reason is pretty obvious. It has already been posted in the "We need a Wright State basketball thread" that Jeron needed to take and pass some summer classes before he could enroll at WSU. If it's true he isn't coming (I'll assume it is true since he's off the roster), academics are probably the reason. wrightstate.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1503&page=2

It's a shame it didn't work out for Jeron, but I am not too concerned by this development. I always saw Jeron as a guy who could come off the bench and play 15-20 minutes a game for us. We still have Cooperwood, Land, Pressley, Grote, Horne, and Thomas dividing up time in the post. Jeron would have given us a big body that we could have used to create some match up problems, but losing him isn't going to kill our season. If this was an Ed Schilling line up, we would be screwed because we didn't have much depth back then. Luckily, Brownell has put together a pretty solid depth chart.
If you are looking for a positive, this does open up another scholarship for 2009. I see Mark Anderson becoming more of a recruiting priority now.

Jesus Christ. I saw this coming when his fat ass couldn't pass classes at his junior college and get here in time for the summer. What a joke. I just had a bad feeling about this clown from the get. I love it! Very, very nice pickup. These things just come out of the blue, don't they. This kid sounds like a player. Passes the look test too ;-) wrightstate.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1218&page=2It sure sounds like you had a bad feeling about him last November.

We just blew it taking a chance on one idiot who couldn't pass a few JUCO classes. Why should we repeat the process again with Anderson? He already flunked out of Wright State once. It's time to move on. Anderson had his chance to be a Raider. We need to focus our recruiting on the kids that are willing to put as much work in the classroom as they do on the court.

www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wsu/2008/07/03/ddn070408spwsubb.htmlWSU's 6-foot-8 transfer won't be eligible Lewis fails to meet academic requirements, but Raiders are loaded with inside players. By Marc Katz Staff Writer Friday, July 04, 2008 FAIRBORN — Wright State will still be bigger than usual this basketball season, but will have to play without junior college transfer Jeron Lewis, who failed to meet academic requirements. Lewis, 6-foot-8, and as much as 291 pounds, is from Fort Wayne, Ind., and played last season at Northeastern in Sterling, Colo. Previously, he played at Wabash Valley Junior College in Mt. Carmel, Ill. That leaves the Raiders with an extra scholarship — which likely will be held a year — but really no shortage of big men for a team that went 21-10, winning 20 or more games for the second straight season. Returning from last year's team are 6-9 junior Ronnie Thomas, 6-8 senior Gavin Horne, 6-8 sophomore Cooper Land and 6-9 redshirt freshman Kyle Pressley. Cory Cooperwood, a 6-7 recruit from Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., will also join the team as a junior. Jordan Pleiman (6-8) and Scottie Wilson (6-6) both graduated, so coach Brad Brownell recruited to his inside game. Injuries held back Thomas and Horne last year, but both have been healthy so far this summer. Thomas and Pressley likely will compete for the post job, while Horne, Land and Cooperwood will be in contention for the big forward position. Also playing for the Raiders for the first time will be 6-6 Duquesne transfer Scott Grote, the former Centerville High School star. He will have sophomore eligibility. Blitz, I was just busting your chops a little bit. It was not intended to be taken seriously. I think all Raider fans are as upset as you are and most of us started to develop similar concerns about Jeron as his sophomore year went on. I initially thought he could have been a dominant post player in the horizon league. As the year wore on, I saw him more as a role player. Now I just see this as an opportunity to sign a better player in the class of 2009.

This is an unfortunate development. Jeron Lewis wasn't going to be an All-HL player, but he could have helped. UIC has Scott VanderMeer (7-0, 260). CSU has J'Nathan Bullock (6-5, 240) and Joe Latas (6-11, 280). Loyola has Leon Young (6-6, 240) and Andy Polka (6-7, 240). Detroit signed Jason Bennett (7-2, 270) this year. Lewis would have helped us match up better in the paint against these wide bodies. Ronnie Thomas has the size to match up but so far his game hasn't matched his size.

You know things are going well with the program overall when we are fretting about losing a guy who was probably going to be the 9th-or-10th-best player on the roster at best. I was thinking the same thing when I read the article.

Based on last year's team photo, Kyle sure looks like he's 6-9. He is clearly taller than coach Ebong and Jordan (both are 6-8).

All this really doesn't matter in the grand scheme, but it's fun to discuss and I like things to be accurate. That has always been one of my pet peeves. Our media guide, official website, game-day score card and pre-game releases NEVER have the same info for our players. It makes our athletic dept look rinky dink when we can even be accurate and consistent about our own team.
