I missed the show. Can anyone summarize what I missed? I only caught bits and pieces but here is the little that I did hear. Coach Donlan called in from Orlando where he will be evaluating players and cross checking players they are currently recruiting at a AAU tournament with over 600 teams. Coach Ebong was in Las Vegas at an AAU tournament that had over 700 teams to evaluate players and cross check players they are currently recruiting. Keith from Xenia called in and asked about the center position. I was kinda taken a back when Bob Grote said that Ronnie Thomas is going to be one of the better center at WSU since Vitaley ( Keith did I hear Bob Grote right?). He said Ronnie was never really in shape last year due to injuries but that he has a good feel for the game, is a good shooter and he is working hard in the weight room. Said Kyle Pressley is very athletic and will play some minutes this year but he will only get better as he gets older. When talking about Cory Cooperwood they, Chris and Bob, both felt like he was NOT really going to be a big scorer but would probably be more of a defender, rebounder, with some scoring around the basket. They felt Cory's over all game would be a big plus for this team. He is supposedly a hard worker not only in games but also in practice.

"I was kinda taken a back when Bob Grote said that Ronnie Thomas is going to be one of the better center at WSU since Vitaley ..." I heard that also...wow. I expected more minutes out of Kyle Pressley being a 3 start recruit and red shirting. But maybe Ronnie is going to be the man. Let's just hope that Ronnie is a much better player then we saw last season because if that is the case then we are really in for a great season. If a healthy Ronnie Thomas is everything Bob Grote said he can be then look out Horizon League.

We need him to rebound and get some put back baskets, not imitate being a guard.

No offense to Chris and Bob, but I am going to wait until we lace them up before I worry about any of this. It's still July. The season doesn't start for 4 more months. If I remember correctly, they predicted last July that Gavin Horne was going to be a big contributor last season.

that about sums up what they said about ronnie, rock. surprised the heck out of me too. having a junior in his third year being the major contributor at center with a redshrit freshman backing him up and getting some minutes is an ideal way to develop a succession at the position. i too hope ronnie develops his inside game and stays away from the 3 pt line. i hope to soon see the raiders being aggressively marketed soon. we are going to be very good the next 2-4 years and need to build our fan base during this time. and, glory, i think gavin's injuries kept him from developing last year as a player. i hope his offseason has been spent working hard and getting stronger, faster & better. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Bob exagerated when he was talking about Ronnie, but I think he is correct in thinking Ronnie is going to be important to our success this year. We all know how good our guards are. The only thing keeping us from becoming a dominant team this year is a consistent inside game. Ronnie doesn't need to be All-Horizon League, he just needs to be a steady contributor for us to achieve that kind of success.

Bob Grant should stick to being an AD and leaving the talent evaluation to others if he thinks Ronnie Thomas is going to be one of the best centers to ever play at WSU. Ronnie won't even come near a guy like Thad from 10 years ago (late 90's) let alone Vitaly. I certainly hope I'm wrong because a good 5 man is the one thing the excellent 2008-09 team is lacking IMO. Bob Grote made the comment about Ronnie, not Bob Grant. Bob Grote is a HOFer and former WSU basketbal coach.

Thad Burton didn't play center for WSU. He was our starting power forward. Steno Kos started at center.

Top centers in WSU history... 1. (my pick for most underrated player in school history) 3. Fred Moore (or Gary Monroe, whoever you consider the center of the D-II 1982-83 national championship team... I think Moore was the center and Monroe the power forward though) Who else? We haven't really had too many true centers at WSU. Most of the time, we have played a forward out of position in the post (Thad Burton, Zach Williams, Thomas Hope, etc). My top true post players: (D1 era) 1. Vitaly Potapenko - 1000 point club, played a decade in the NBA 2. Mike Nahar - 1000 point club, played a decade overseas 3. Isreal Sheinfeld - 1000 point club, still playing overseas 4. Jordan Pleiman - over 900 points, 500 rebounds

I spent a few minutes looking at the media guide trying to make sure I didn't leave anyone off my list. One other thing that struck me is how good our NCAA tournament teams were.
Our 2007 team had 4 guys who will probably end up in our 1000 point club and 1 who finished just outside of it. DaShaun Wood: 1849 points, 563 rebound Drew Burleson: 1176 points, 576 rebounds Jordan Pleiman: 950 points, 685 rebounds Vaughn Duggins: 725 points, 199 rebounds (2 years left) Todd Brown: 680 points, 227 rebounds (2 years left)
Our 1993 team had 4 of the best Raiders of all-time on it. Bill Edwards: 2303 points, 907 rebounds Sean Hammonds: 1573 points, 828 rebounds Mark Woods: 1216 points, 744 assists Mike Nahar: 1080 points Andy Holderman: I cannot find his stats
