First Game SummaryWalk-off Home Run Powers Baseball to Game One Victory Over Eastern MichiganMcGrew Drives in Game Winning Runs with Home Run in Eighth Inning and Freshman Michael Schum Picked Up the Victory in Relief in Game One Against Eastern Michigan March 14, 2009 DAYTON, Ohio – Casey McGrew followed up a big Friday showing with a two-run, walk-off home run to end game one of the Wright State baseball teams double-header with Eastern Michigan on Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium. The Raiders trailed 1-0 early, but scored an unearned run in the fifth and McGrew struck with the winning runs in the eighth inning of a seven inning contest. The Eagles tallied their lone run in the fourth inning off of Wright State starting pitcher Alex Kaminsky. WMU used a leadoff double and a single to right field by Matt Skerving to stake to an early 1-0 lead. The Raiders tallied an unearned run in the fifth when Ryan Ashe got the inning started with a single up the middle. After a sacrifice bunt from Garrett Gray and a line drive out, R.J. Gundolff was hit by a pitch and Aaron Fields singled. On the Fields hit, the throw to first was late to the bag and bounced away from the first baseman and allowed Ashe to score from third to tie the game. Kaminsky tossed the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with ease, before tallying the first out of the eighth inning and handing the ball to Michael Schum. Kaminsky threw 7.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out a pair of EMU batters. Schum retired the final two batters of the bottom of the eighth and the stage was set for McGrew’s heroics. In the bottom half of the frame, Fields flew out to start the inning and Quentin Cate reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. McGrew then took the 1-1 offering from EMU relief pitcher Tim Combs down the right field line and over the fence for his third homer of the season to give WSU their second walk-off victory of the season. In the game, Gray collected the only multi-hit game for WSU with a pair of singles. Ashe, Cate and McGrew accounted for the three runs, with Eastern Michigan holding a six-to-five advantage in the hit column. Schum collected his first collegiate victory in the contest – improving to 1-4 on the year – as he collected the two ground ball outs in the eighth. www.wsuraiders.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/031409aaa.html

Second Game RecapDéjà Vu: Baseball Top Eastern Michigan on Walk-off Hit to Sweep Double-HeaderJunior Casey McGrew Doubled and Tripled In Game Two and Drove in a Pair of RBI's March 14, 2009 DAYTON, Ohio - The Wright State baseball team won the nightcap against Eastern Michigan on a walk-off double from Aaron Fields to take the game 7-6 and sweep the double-header from the Eagles. It was the 14 hit of the game for WSU and plated the winning run in dramatic fashion to end an exciting day at Nischwitz Stadium. EMU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on WSU starting pitcher Travis LaMar before the Raiders would score a pair of their own runs on a Casey McGrew double to left center field. With the score sitting at 4-2 in favor of the visitors, WSU added an unearned run in the fourth to cut the deficit to one run heading to the fifth. LaMar would get into a little trouble after a string of mishaps and find himself with the bases loaded and no one out. After an RBI single and walk scored a pair of runs, LaMar got a flyball out and an infield flyball to hold the runners at bay. Jordan Marker came on to face the left-handed batter and got a flyball to right field to end the threat. WSU would respond with two runs of their own in the fifth, when McGrew got the inning started with a triple to right center field. Jeff Mercer brought home McGrew with a groundout and after a Garrett Gray groundout there were two outs. Tristan Moore and Ryan Ashe put together back-to-back singles and Kory Twede doubled to score Moore – with Ashe getting thrown out at the plate – to pull the Raiders back within one at 6-5. Quentin Cate doubled with one out in the sixth and score on a Jeff Mercer single to knot the game at 6-6 and reliever Michael Schum retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to give the Raiders their chance. After a strikeout to start the inning, Ryan Ashe singled and was erased when Twede grounded into a fielders choice. Twede stole second and Fields stepped in and connected on the full count pitch. The ball squirted down the left field line and Twede rounded third and scored to give WSU their second walk-off win of the game. R.J. Gundolff and Ashe each collected two hits in the game, while Twede chipped in three hits and scored a pair of runs. McGrew was three-for-three with a walk and two RBI’s in the nightcap and Mercer drove in a pair of RBI’s in the game two victory. Schum picked up his second win of the day by tossing 1.2 innings – not allowing a baserunner – with a strikeout. The redshirt freshman is not 2-4 on the season and leads the team with eight appearances out of the bullpen. The Raiders are now 6-10 overall and will take their three-game winning streak across town to face rival Dayton at 1:00 on Sunday, March 15th at Time Warner Cable Stadium. www.wsuraiders.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/031409aab.html
