I think this team is really only 1 player away from being able to compete with Butler next year. We need a stud in the paint. If we get that kind of player next year who can step in a play 25-30 minutes and get 8-10 points, 6-7 rebounds pg and defend down low, this team will be tough to beat.
We will have 4 guys who can shoot 3's ( Brown, Duggins, Tabler, & Koch) next year, and I think Evans and JDG (assuming he's healthy) can handle the point. We just need an enforcer down low to rebound and defend. I want to see a guy 6'8' to 6'10", 235 lbs who goes after rebounds like his life depended on it. That kind of signing would make for a huge "Christmas in April" for all of us Rowdy Raiders.

BBJ, I have high hopes for the Navy guy being the rebounding machine we need next year. The truth of the matter is we held our own with Butler last night without our top 2 guards. With Vaughn and JD in our line up, I think we would be Dancing this year. Add them back in next year with our incoming recruits and I'm pretty excited about next year.
I think we all want another post player for next year. I hope we land one too, but if we don't I am still very excited about next year.

I hope you are right, SM, but we really don't know much of anything about this guy. Talk about a stealth recruit, he's 25 or 26 years old, and played for the Navy team. That's all we really know about him. Even Big D, our recruiting guru and fact finding machine, doesn't have much on him. I will with hold judgment on him until I see him on the court. And I believe he still has to get past the NCAA Clearing House about eligilbility before we know if he can even sign his LOI. I'm still holding out for an enforcer down low. If this guys it, great, but let's get another and have 2 of em.

I don't think you can ever have too many big men or outside shooters. Like everyone else, I think we go after a big post player with our last scholarship. If we can't get one, I say bring in another PG that can light it up from outside.

Has anyone's opinion on N'gai changed? He is still not my favorite player, BUT i was very impressed these last few games with his play. Yes he still drives and doesn't look for the dish often enough, but i think his shooting improved out of nowhere and his overall game to me seemed to be sharper. I think we need to get a big guy who can flop around, go to the basket with reckless abandon. Apparently refs love those types of guys. IE Hansbrough, Howard, Igvaboa to name a few. Lets change Ronnie into one of those type of players lol.

I would say my opinion of N'Gai has changed, he finished the season well. I hope to see him as a very valuable backup guard for us next year. He shoots foul shots well, he drives to the basket well and usually makes his layups unlike certain other players. The biggest knock on him which I still think is true, is that he is not an observant passer, does not see the floor as well as he should and therefore does not get the assists that I would like to see.

I think N'Gai has potential, but he needs to really work on his passing, shooting, and conditioning this summer. He needs to live in the weightroom and attend every open gym he can get into.

I hope Cartharn, Koch, and Darkwa are good enough to push some of our vets for PT. Competition is good. I don't want anyone getting too comfortable in their place on this team and slack off this off season. I want everyone in top physical and mental condition to start next year. These 0-6 starts to the season are BS. We killed any chance at the post season with that start. Next year we kick off the season with the 3 day AIA tournament in Washington. We need to be ready to play.

My opinion of N'Gai as a point guard has changed somewhat. To his credit over the last 3 or 4 games he seems to be trying to look for the open man. N'Gai has the skills to be a solid point guard he just seems to lack that intangible. I like the term you used djohde with "obsevant passer". With our last scholarship I'm still hoping for a JUCO point guard but I would not complain at all if we land a JUCO post player that can contribute right away. What I don't want is a JUCO post player that can't come in and contribute from the start. I'd take another Cory Cooperwood in a heart beat. Now if he were 2 or3 inches taller then Cory all the better ;D. If we knew JDG was going to be healthy then a point guard wouldn't even be a consideration with JDG at the point and N'Gai backing him up but that is such and unknown. I hope I'm not too dissappointed in our last scholarship because I have high hopes for how we'll use it.

we could well have the oldest starting lineup up the country next year. could be 22,22,22,23 &26. if you have player with talent thta kind of maturity and experience is what can lead to a run in the postseason. while their ages are a given, the talent level is yet to be completely determined. but i like our experience level. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!
