Raiders Announce 2009-10 Schedule Aug. 10, 2009 DAYTON - The Wright State University men's basketball team will be looking for its fourth straight 20-win season in 2009-10 as the Raiders announced their schedule which is highlighted by a season-opening tournament against three 20-win teams, 11 games against teams that advanced to post-season play last March, and a nationally-televised, non-conference ESPN game. The slate starts off with three teams with 20 or more wins last year, as two played in the NCAA Tournament and one in the CIT. It all starts Nov. 13 against University of Washington at the Athletes In Action Classic in Seattle, WA. The Huskies went 26-9 a year ago before losing to Purdue in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Portland State, winners of the Big Sky Conference, went 23-10 last season, losing to Xavier in the first round of the Big Dance. The opening-season tournament ends with a matchup against CIT participant Belmont. The Bruins won 20 games last year. "Again, I am pleased how our schedule turned out this year," WSU head coach Brad Brownell said. "We certainly will be challenged in our non-conference slate by two preseason top-20 programs in Washington and Mississippi State. I also think it speaks highly of our program that we were selected for the second straight year to play in a nationally-televised contest. We certainly will find out a lot about ourselves the first weekend. I think the Athletes in Action Tournament is one of the better early season, multi-team events in the country." The home opener will see Central Michigan visit the Nutter Center Nov. 24 before Thanksgiving as the Raiders will fly to Northeastern for a game Nov. 28. Northeastern ended last year at 19-13 and also played in the CBI. The League slate starts early this year as NCAA team Cleveland State and Youngstown State pay visits to Dayton Dec. 3 and 5. A pair of MAC opponents will host WSU: Toledo Dec. 8, 9 or 10 and Miami Dec. 13. Wright State will travel to Mississippi State for a Dec. 16 contest. That game will air on one of the ESPN formats, likely ESPN2. The Bulldogs ended last year at 22-13, winning the SEC Tournament. MSU has been touted in most pre-season polls as a team to beat in this year's SEC race. WSU will then turn its eyes back home with tilts: Maryland-Eastern Shore Dec. 19, Arkansas-Little Rock Dec. 22 and Sam Houston State Dec. 28. The Horizon League heats up again for the Raiders as they play at UIC and at Loyola over the New Year's holidays before returning home to host nationally-ranked Butler Jan. 8 and Valparaiso Jan. 10. Three road games await WSU after that home stretch as they visit Green Bay Jan. 14, Milwaukee Jan. 16 and Detroit Jan. 23. To end January, the Chicago schools come to town as Wright State entertains UIC Jan. 28 and Loyola Jan. 30. The home stretch in February includes five road games: Valparaiso Feb. 4, Butler Feb. 6, Youngstown State Feb. 25 and Cleveland State Feb. 27 as well as the ESPNU Bracket Buster Feb. 20. Three games are inked for the Nutter Center with Milwaukee Feb. 11; Green Bay Feb. 13 and Detroit Feb. 17. The Horizon League Tournament will start at home sites March 2 with the quarterfinals and semifinals slated for March 5-6. The finals will be March 9. Wright State finished last year at 20-13 overall and advanced to the semifinal game of the Horizon League Tournament for its third straight 20-win campaign. WSU returns all but two players, including four starters. www.wsuraiders.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081009aab.html

Great schedule. I'm glad Toledo was willing to move their game with us so we could play Miss State.

I like the schedule. Mississipi State is a great late addition.

Tough schedule. It should prepare us for the horizon league.

We have a decent schedule this year. We can't afford another 0-6 start. Let's get it done Raiders!

Thank god. I thought we were going to end up with a Cedarville type team with our last game. Way to get it done coaches!

I don't like it either. I think we are stuck with it due to the bracket buster game.

Solid schedule. Anyone but Maryland-Eastern Shore and I would have said great.

The MSU game is part of a 2 for 1 contract. We'll see them in the Nutter Center in the future.

I like all of the Saturday night games. It should help our attendance even though we don't have any big names coming to the Nutter Center this year.

There are also a few really good high school seniors in the area this year that will be going away to school. Adriene Payne will be headed to a BCS program next year. Once he commits, we should be contacting that school to schedule a home/home or 2 for 1 with them. Many good BCS programs will play a game in a kids hometown for him. That's how we schedule Mich St (Andre Hudson) a few years back.

The MSU game is part of a 2 for 1 contract. We'll see them in the Nutter Center in the future. This is a key piece of info. The MSU game this year just went from good to great because it means a 2-for-1. Folks, you can't ask for anything better than a 2-for-1 with a BCS conference school. Never going to get a home-home (except in very rare cases). We can ask for something better than just a 2 for 1 with a BCS school, and we got it. The game this year at MSU will be on the ESPN network (probably ESPN2).

We only have 4 nonconference home games this year. We need to pack the Nutter Center for each of them.
