Two trips to Chicago next season for RaidersBy Marc Katz January 12, 2010 FAIRBORN — It appears Wright state will make at least two trips to Chicago next basketball season as the Raiders have signed a contract to play in the Chicago Invitational Challenge (CIT). That tournament involves playing two games at home against opponents the CIT chooses, then two games in Chicago. The two home games will be played just before Thanksgiving. The two games in Chicago just after. The two teams WSU will play in Chicago will come from a group of three — Arkansas, Southern Illinois and Purdue. When the Horizon League season begins, the Raiders will take another trip to Chicago to play Loyola and Illinois-Chicago, usually on a Thursday and Saturday. www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/wrightstatesports/entries/2010/01/12/two_trips_to_chicago_next_seas.html?cxtype=feedbot

1. Playing a cupcake at home is the price you pay to be able to schedule a BCS buy game (#2). No good team is going to take a buy game with us. Anyone worth scheduling is going to at least want a home/home series. That being said, I hope we can at least schedule a team with an RPI that isn't going to kill our SOS. 2. I'd like to see us start the year at UC. It would be good for our RPI and they are a beatable BCS team. 3. I'd like to see us schedule some of the better MAC, CAA, MVC, A-10 programs. We need to improve our SOS to give us a better chance at post season play, but we also need some decent teams that will attract some more casual fans to the Nutter Center.

Penn State (Bill Edwards Jr) and Mich State (Adreian Payne) both players with local ties. They might be willing to give us that deal so their players can play in front of their hometown. 3) I just want to see us sign 2 home/home contracts with top 100 programs. The only way we are going to take our program to the next program is to play and beat better teams. There are 47 top 100 teams that are not in a BCS conference (that we don't already play) that we should potentially be able to sign a home/home contract with. 10 New Mexico 17 Northern Iowa 18 San Diego State 19 Xavier 24 Brigham Young 25 Richmond 27 Old Dominion 31 Siena 32 Utah State 35 St Mary's (CA) 36 Gonzaga 37 Texas El Paso 40 Rhode Island 43 Alabama Birmingham 44 Wichita State 46 Nevada Las Vegas 47 Cornell 48 Kent State 51 New Mexico State 52 Oakland 55 Dayton 57 Murray State 62 Marshall 64 William & Mary 65 Virginia Commonwealth 67 Tulsa 69 Sam Houston State 70 Wofford 72 Nevada 74 Illinois State 75 Fairfield 76 Northeastern 78 Louisiana Tech 79 Charlotte 80 Portland 82 St. John's (NY) 83 Indiana PUI 84 Saint Louis 86 Morehead State 87 Iona 89 Weber State 90 Akron 91 Missouri State 92 Indiana State 93 College of Charleston 96 Cal Santa Barbara 97 Montana

We are already playing in the Chicago Invitational Challenge. You are only allowed to play in one exempt tournament a year.

Only semi-related but we made an appearance on deadspin: deadspin.com/5494968/mid+major-iso-unattached-team-for-casual-encounter-possibly-moreMid-Major ISO Unattached Team For Casual Encounter, Possibly More [Mid-Major ISO Unattached Team For Casual Encounter, Possibly More] We'd like to think college basketball scheduling is a thoroughly considered, professional process among teams, conferences and the NCAA. But no. There's a message board where teams look for hook-ups. Let's explore the Craigslist of college hoops. We came across this today via a throwaway link from Brooks, but the schedule boards at Basketball Travelers deserve a closer look. It's mostly weaker teams looking to fill out their schedules, but there are some big players here. Ever wonder how Kansas opened this season with Alcorn State and Central Arkansas? Probably through this board. For next season they're "seeking a guarantee game for November 21 or 22." Guarantee game being, of course, a guaranteed win. (Update: Nittany White Out points out that a "guarantee game" is simply a guaranteed home game, with no obligation for a home and home.) Then there are teams like St. Bonaventure, who are offering themselves up as a guaranteed loss. They want to attract a "high major team" for a home and home series, including one at the 19,000 seat arena in Buffalo. That'd be big money for the Bonnies, but they've got to reassure the interested teams that they won't put up much of a fight: "We are losing two of our top three scorers for next season." But that might not be good enough to convince high majors to play them instead of Wright State, which promises that they will "lose 9 players in the next two years-4 seniors in 2010(3 starters), 5 seniors in 2011." It's competitive out there. Wyoming is offering to pay some of the travel budget for any school willing to fly to Laramie. Pepperdine advertises themselves thusly: "Get out of the cold and bring your team down to Southern California!" It's a fascinating look behind the scenes of college scheduling, and goes a long way toward answering some of the inexplicable early-season matchups. One wonders what the bidding war for Virginia Tech's games was like, and what Longwood and Campbell had to do to get on the schedule. Men's Schedule Board [Basketball Travelers Inc.]

I have to disagree with the thought UC is a beatable BCS team. They are a very big team and Lance Stephenson. I forgot about the CIT next year, awesome. I do hope we can get a good home and home series started. I hope we get some MVC or CAA teams. Everyone on here knows what we want and its pretty similar. Maybe the 2 for 1 with a BCS school can happen this year.

That is funny. They should update the thread...lose 10 players...4 seniors and 1 freshman in 2010, 5 seniors in 2011.

On basketballtravelers, WSU is now only advertising for 3 games next year:
1. Home buy game 2. Two home/home series starting at WSU. Says we are open to triangle possibilities as well.
