I am also anxious for the new coach to be hired. My wife and I both enjoy going to VB matches. I want that program to become a very successful program. I like the fact that athletes from other WSU sports often attend the games.

I'm excited and interested on who they picked for the Volleyball coach. Looking forward to seeing the next season. I hope that they can turn it around as well. They've been an embarassment the past few years. With the resources they have and the facilities on campus that are available. Anything outside of the top 5 in the league is unacceptable. The alumini that I refer to above wasn't affiliated with the previous regime. Also, I hear that she may be a top HC candidate at a D1 school from a BCS conference. And it's done www.shupirates.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12600&ATCLID=205374869

It sounds like we got the better hire for our situation anyways. We got a coach with previous head coaching experience. She knows how to build a mid-major program within a mid-major budget. She also has local recruiting connections. Why hire someone just because they played at WSU? She has no head coaching experience and she has never had to recruit at the mid-major level. Selling WSU is going to be a lot harder than it would be to sell Seton Hall to a recruit, especially on a much more limited budget. I definitely think we hired the right coach for the job.

I would disagree. You say that the new coach knows how to build a mid-major program? Where has she done that? Niagara is not a mid-major. Their conference, the MAAC, is about as lowly as D1 gets. The average enrollment is 5,000 students. And recruiting? She currently recruits lowly D1 players who want to come to Niagara, not exactly top talent. She was quoted in the DDN that she builds her teams small, fast and scrappy, that won't work with the athletes in the Horizon League. Athletes at UWM, Butler, Valpo are all big, strong kids who are also fast. Volleyball is not a money making sport. They lose money every year. If I were involved in the Athletic Department, I'd want to keep as many Alumni VB players involved with the program so that they donate to the Raider Club. How many players, knowing what they now know, are going to be willing to support a program who didn't take care or support one of their own? Especially now that they are all united and close with the Voss-Vellinga story.

Especially now that they are all united and close with the Voss-Vellinga story. Less than 3% of our former athletes contribute a dime to WSU athletics. Less than 0.5% of our former Volleyball players have donated to WSU. I doubt Bob Grant spent more than 3 seconds worrying about keeping that group of people happy by hiring a former player. You hire the best person available. We did. I'll take our new coach's head coaching experience any day of the week over the Seton Hall assistant coach. At the end of the day, you are the only person bitching about this decision. No one has called WSU's athletic department to complain about the hiring. On the other hand, quite a few people have called to compliment Grant on the hire.
