The weather wasn't too wet this year but, 2011 produced the absolute worst baseball field I have ever seen. You can't imagine how everyone feels when the team is forced to move games to Xenia ( AIA complex ). ( Makes as much sense as having it for soccer ).

It also allows you to rent the place out to more high school teams because you don't have to worry about the field being torn up from over use when the weather is bad.

Recruiting. Besides what tommy and raiderup said, having the best facility in the area has to help bring in top baseball recruits.

Seems like the field turf has been planned for at least a year. On Sunday, I saw Cusack at a funeral home in Beavercreek and Mike also pointed out that the new surface should help the team get on the field more often before the season starts ( at least that is the hope ).

I think any and all upgrades are a good idea. Potential recruits, students, and fans see our campus and facilities. Any improvements we can make to all of our facilities is just going to improve everyone's overall perception of WSU.

Feel free to delete if this does not belong, but I wanted to take a minute to share something and this seems like the best, if incorrect, thread to share it in. Just in case anyone might be interested; I recently had to renew my tags for my vehicle, and upon browsing the Ohio BMV website, I decided to check out the collegiate license plates--Long story short, I ended up ordering the Wright State University plates, they just arrived in the mail yesterday and man they are COOL. The left side of the plate has the "proud" Raider/Wolf logo atop the "Wright State" logo, and in the lower-middle portion of the plate "Wright State University" goes across the bottom. Ordering these plates from the Ohio BMV is a bit more expensive than normal plates HOWEVER $25 of the purchase goes towards the university's General Scholarship Fund. I would encourage all Raider/University supporters to check out these plates (you can do so at and seriously consider ordering them! I am very happy that I did. I was going to post a picture but am not sure how to on Proboards. I believe that I am one of very few vehicles driving around downtown Cincinnati with WSU plates, so honk if you see me, and consider purchasing these yourself! Very cool.

"Wright State University Chooses ABM" www.nasdaq.com/article/wright-state-university-chooses-abm-analyst-blog-cm224030#.UTs9nxK9LCQThere's an interesting blurb in this article that states that "This project includes enhancement of Wright State University's heating and cooling equipments and utilizing its pond for geothermal cooling." I was wondering if this essentially rules out the possibility of filling-in the pond at the nutter to utilize as additional parking or general space. Not sure it that idea was ever originally in the works or if it was just a consumer-driven idea to begin with, but it looks as if this deal may rule it out.

Cincy, I haven't heard anything about moving the pond since last year. Maybe the whole project got scrapped?

Football is a club sport so I don't think we need a stadium. Add more bleachers if necessary. I don't think we need athletic dorms down by the Nutter and fields. Why separate the athletes from the student body. Plus, I don't know where you'd put such fa cilities.
I think the softball team could used bigger dugouts with enhanced features and some bleachers along the outfield lines if attendance warrants it.
One way to enhance parking would be to add a four or five story parking garage onto the back of the building with direct access into the Nutter. You could sell quarterly and annual parking permits to help finance it, along with special event fees for non-permit vehicles.

I'm pretty sure schools are not allowed to have specialized dorms for athletes only. There is an NCAA rule that prohibits it.
