Hats off to GB for taking quick action on this matter. One way or the other, the school will be better off in the long run if they act quickly on the matter.

I know we try to stick to WSU basketball on here, but since this is an issue inside the HL and has gotten national attention I thought it was apropriate. I'm not sure if everyone has been aware of the accusations against UW-GB head coach Brian Wardle by former players Ryan Bross and Brennan Cougill. So heres a link to the story reported by ESPN. Just wanted to hear your guys thoughts. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9227839/ryan-bross-details-allegations-uw-green-bay-phoenix-coach-brian-wardleI've never been a big fan of Wardle, but I stand behind him here. I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion with the Mike Rice situation fresh in everyone's minds. I do think that homophobic slurs are completely uncalled for. Times have changed, its not acceptable anymore. If Brian Wardle is fired because of these allegations brought against him that is just ridiculous. This is all just symbolizing the "sissyness" of America that has been going on. Some players nowadays just need to man up. This isnt Women's basketball, coaches shouldnt have to be worried about hurting a players feeling during practice.

I agree with what you posted. Keep in mind that some of the people on the Board don't remember much prior to 2000. Times are different...I could tell some stories but back then it all stayed in the locker room...parents backed the coaches and players knew it wouldn't always be fun ( when singled out ). For me it started with Michigan football...got to follow the rules set by the NCAA but the players should have put in the time and not be so concerned with how much time was spent because they were working on getting better every chance they had. When I saw the Rutgers video, I didn't see anything wrong ( if words were spoken, might have had a problem with that...the coach was already dealt with before it became public). Fact is most teams that have success have used hard work to get there. Sad, for those that think we need to baby athletes, but if GB were national champs they would most likely let this blow over. FWIW, I've heard fans cuss at games because of play on the court ( can't speak on whether they wanted to send players packing or just visualized wringing their necks...might have a better idea of what they thought about the refs ). One of the GB players that complained was a walk-on but any of them could have left...they could have explained it to the AD or an assistant. They made it public ( not sure I'd want any of them and we all know all of our coaches have been softies ).

Its the feminization of our society, which is not surprising since about half the young men under 25 in this country were raised in a home without a father or any male influence during most of their formentative years.

The problem is that some people use certain words to garner sympathy or guilt or shame. When I see something like this or words that are meant as some kind of code in politics I tune them out if it doesn't fit my definition. I think that is very unfair for those that truly suffer some harm ( no doubt that there are jerks in sports, stores, offices, religion, wherever ).

There was an assistant coach at a conference school that I talked to fairly frequently, and we once had a discussion about their success translating to recruiting. I asked him whether or not their staff would begin to target nationally elite players, and he told me straight up that most of the players at that level aren't worth the ego.

Unfortunately, Glory Days, I believe that article touches upon more than just today's sports world and is perhaps more reflective of their generation.
