WOW! That is a bit of a surprise. It raises questions. On one hand it is closer to home, but not convenient to home. So I would guess that he lost his 'ship at WSU and/or he decided to transfer independently on his own given the new bigs we have coming. With Karena and Sledge we didn't need a third guy at center.

I don't think he was D1 material. I saw him play briefly in the exhibition game vs Findlay and he didn't look all that athletic. I think the staff took flyer on him and realized after seeing him in practice everyday that he just wasn't good enough to compete in the HL. This was not a surprise to me. Similar to the Alex Pritchett situation.

He was a work in progress. Might be best for him to move to a team at lower level. If Kendall not able to play again would allow us to pursue another JUCO.

I think we are done adding players for next year. Keith Thomas isn't planning on visiting Wright State now. He was planning on visiting before we got a commitment from Karena so it looks like Karena took the last scholarship we had available.

Similar to the Alex Pritchett situation. Many Raider fans had the same opinion of AJ Pacher after his first appearance in a Raider's uniform. It takes longer for big men to develop than guards at the mid-major level. I think Meyer had potential. I think our coaching staff did too otherwise they wouldn't have red-shirted him. He might not have contributed much this season but he was another 6-9, 240# body to put in the paint. How many times this past season would we have been happy with having another big that could take up space and battle on the boards. We were stuck playing JT Yoho at center many times in our OOC schedule while Sledge was suspended. I'd prefer to have him on our roster this year for no other reason than that. You need depth and getting depth on the inside is the hardest thing to do at the mid-major level.

I really wish we still had a shot at adding Thomas to this class, especially with the loss of Meyer. You can never have too many bigs.

Fastbreak, thanks for your response about Daniel Meyer. BBJ may be right but, there is nothing wrong with the Summit League. As it was, if it wasn't an insult to Daniel Meyer, I may have considered BBJ's post to be an insult to the team and staff...guess we won't know if Daniel improved from the exhibition game to the OU game but, I appreciate what he did to help during practices. I wish Daniel luck.

Tommy, what I said was merely my opinion. If what I said was an insult to either the player or the staff than they have really thin skin. Billy is getting paid $225k per year to be the Raiders coach. He and his staff have much bigger fish to fry than getting insulted by anything that I might post here . If they do read this board it's probably for amusement purposes only.

BBJ, I usually have a higher opinion of your basketball thinking. Re-read your post...stand by it if you like. I don't normally like to express any views without seeing someone at least twice...possibly a fast paced game and a slow paced game. Since the 3-point line is different in high school, it is always a stretch to project certain aspects. For the most part, high school kids only think they work hard compared to college. Daniel played in Montana, not sure about the competition but he also played AAU ball ( more structure than in the old days so it may mean something ). Anyway, UNO wanted him before and are happy they get a second chance. If what you say is true it is a win-win for both programs. I would still bet he is better for the experience ( and I still think he helped in what I consider a successful Raiders year...which is my opinion ). An exhibition game from 5 months ago, really?

An exhibition game from 6 months ago, really? I was fairly impressed with Meyer in that exhibition game. He played less than 1 minute and got 1 rebound and made 1 bucket. You could tell the kid was nervous. It was probably the biggest crowd he had ever played in front of. I was looking forward to seeing how much he developed sitting out last year. I's too bad. I wish him well at his next stop.

What an idiot. Howell barely made it onto the court last year. He is going to be so deep in Donlon's doghouse after this he might as well transfer.

According to the story linked, this was not a OVI arrest, but an underage drinking violation, and an underage drinking and driving. He was not above the .08 legal limit to drive, according to the story. But since he is underage you cannot have anything to drink and then drive. Again, not a smart move, but most kids his age away at college do the same thing (drink underage). Actually when I was in college and his age, what he did would not have even been illegal, but laws are much stricter now. Hopefully he learns his lesson and doesn't do anything worse from here on out. This is a 4th degree misdemeanor, and shouldn't bring too bad a punishment from the courts, although the coach will probably be a little bit tougher in order to teach a lesson.
