I like hearing we found a few guards who can come in and hopefully get some immediate action..and won't have the true freshman look of death in their eyes. I'm not real savvy on the transfer/injury etc. rules, but if Vest's injury/healing process is lengthy, can he take a medical redshirt and then play in the 14-15 season if he's taking graduate classes? Vest can red-shirt this year if needed and play in 2014/15. He can take graduate classes or undergraduate classes if he still has any left.

It's good to hear that all of the new guys are on campus practicing with the team. It's even better news to hear that Davis spent this pass season working out. He was grossly underweight as a high school senior. He will really benefit from the added muscle weight he has put on. The biggest disappointment has got to be our team's health status. It is really starting to sound like Vest won't be ready to go next year. I don't like that AJ is just starting to work out with the team and Cole won't even start practicing until this fall. Both of those guys needed a good off season in the weight room. It's just sad that those 3 guys are entering their senior year at Wright State and none of them have made it through a single season healthy.

I'm just glad Cole finally had surgery on that shoulder. Strength isn't his game. Not saying adding strength wouldn't have helped him, but he's crafty around the basket and can shoot the 3. That's his game. Hopefully he's able to stay healthy because if he does, this team is going to be incredible. Cole hasn't come close to being able to stay healthy an entire year at Wright State. I think you are right, strength isn't his game. Unfortunately, Donlon uses him as a power forward and sometimes even at center. He may not try to be a physical player as part of his offensive game plan. That doesn't change the fact that he has to defend players that do use their strength as part of their game plan. If Cole goes into next season with the same slight build he has played with the last 3 years, I expect much of the same from him. He will show some flashes of being an all HL type player until he ends up getting hurt again.

Big D, in your opinion, who is most likely to lose their scholarship for the season in order to make room for Meyer? Steven Davis have to pay his own way for another year before going on scholarship? Matt Vest becomes a walk-on for his final season? What gives here? Thanks. No one is going to lose their scholarship this year. Donlon would not have signed another player for next year unless one of our current players and their family volunteered to give up their scholarship. I think one of our seniors will give up their scholarship for their final year so that we could bring in Meyers. Vest or Pacher make the most sense because they are both local and would only have to pay in state tuition to attend Wright State their final year. We will know more after Meyer is enrolled at Wright State and Donlon can comment on him. Whoever it ends up being, I have a great deal of respect for them for making this sacrifice for the team.

No way Pacher would give up his scholarship for his final season IMO, nor should he. Vest, now that's a legit possibility. You don't seem to be getting the situation we are in. This isn't a situation where someone is having their scholarship taken away. No one is being punished. This is a situation where one of our players stepped up as an unselfish leader and offered to give up their scholarship so that we could bring in another player that could help this team. This was all about a kid doing whatever he could do to help this team be successful. If you don't think AJ is that type of kid, you have never met AJ or his family.

Obviously I have no inside info on this issue. My first guess is that Vest will give up his scholarship first because he is recovering from surgery and is questionable for his comng season. He will be able to recuperate while wrapping up any undergrad courses he may have and begin graduate school. This will afford him the opportunity to fully recover and simultaneously begin grad school without basketball distracting him from his school work. Plus, his family was willing to have him sit out his freshman year at their expense, so I have no doubt they would be willing to do the same for his senior year.
If that isn't the decision, then I expect Pacher will forgo his scholarshipin in order to bring in this big freshman. But I fully expect that it will be Vest who will make the sacrifice.
Question...Is it possible for one player to give up his scholarship for one semester and the second player to give up his scholarship for the second semester? My guess is "no", but since these are separate calendar events I am curious if scholarships are an annual award or an academic award semester by semester.

That would be the same a splitting a scholarship and that is no allowed in D1 basketball.
