It is obvious he doesn't understand that the new NCAA rules and stresses for the refs on fouls has made the man to man defense a liability. It ends up creating fouls on the big men. That has been shown when we play a team not made up of Div I walk ons. His offense doesn't generate fouls against the opponents. I know I won't be wasting my time and money to go to another away game while he is the head coach.

Versus Division I opponents, Donlon is barely over .500 winning percentage for his career.

Like it or not, I don't see Wright State getting rid of him after this year. Not with the recruiting class we have coming in. At the very least, I think they give him at least one more year.

The play-in game isn't just for the 4 worst teams with automatic bids, some good teams need to win to fill in some of the other seeds. It would give us another game and a chance to see the game in person. It would also say a lot about the league. As a mid-major, we really needed to beat Georgetown and DePaul if we wanted to avoid being in that particular discussion. The committee would probably like most of the mid-majors to have a team in a play-in game at some point ( so, it doesn't look like they always pick on a particular conference(s)). Personally, I think you shouldn't have to play in one of those play-in games unless you are at-large ( automatic bids should mean automatic bids ).

We will indeed be the first play in game if we win the Horizon League. The rest of the Horizon League's teams RPI 's will tank once we play them.
He is going to have to jump out of the ditch he is digging instead of doubling down.
We need to be able to score against a zone defense without shooting 3 point shots to win a game.

Hey, a 16 is going to beat a 1 eventually, right?

There is a possibility there.

If the team had not been projected to be so good, being this bad would not have been so frustrating for fans, at least most fans.

I hope the Raiders dominate the conference schedule. In order to be a top 2 seed, a team usually needs to win 12-13 games - that typically means going undefeated at home and split your away schedule or win 5 on the road. If we go no better than .500 for conference schedule and lose our 1st game of the conference tourney, what does the university do regarding Donlon? Isn't this the last year of his contract? Should they offer a one year extension? Long term deal? Look elsewhere? The university/athletic dept. has invested quite a bit of money into facilities and the program recently; I'm sure they would like a return on that investment.
I'm not looking to "sell the farm" right now, I am just speaking hypothetically.

scout, i could be wrong but i think he has one more year. however, in terms of being able to recruit that is like "lame duck status" and it would reallly make it tough to replace our junior class.

raiderscout, If the picture you paint comes to past, I'd say WSU has to part company with Coach Donlon. If some of the guards opt out, so be it. This team needs some guys who love to fight in the paint, so losing one or two guards can be a gain for us as a team. Guys who will box out and fight for rebounds, play tough defense against other big men, and can score are sorely needed. If a guy like Don May or Sean Hammonds comes along, fine, grab him. Those guys have the mind set we need, they don't have to be 6'11".
But from this point on it is all about this year. Let's hope our guys understand that and get after it on the court. I too want to put this losing streak behind us ASAP.

I was happy to see the changes on the offensive end. Eastern Illinois big men were picking up most of the fouls early in the first half. We played with more of a team effort last night than in the past 4 games.

It doesn't matter who Billy D recruits. He does not know how to use them..... Jerran young and Stephen Davis are coming off the bench when they should be starting. If you can't score with these guys, there is no future for billy d at WSU

It doesn't matter who Billy D recruits. He does not know how to use them..... Jerran young and Stephen Davis are coming off the bench when they should be starting. If you can't score with these guys, there is no future for billy d at WSU Donlon likes guys that play ball within his system. The athletes you mentioned above do not do that. The are freelancers and as long as they try to operate outside of his system, they aren't going to get playing time. Davis doesn't play more because he gets out of position too often on defense and he chucks up 3 pointers as soon as he touches the ball on offense. First, he isn't shooting well from 3 so it is a bad shot and second, he is shooting way too early without letting the shot clock wind down. And we all know that Donlon wants to run shot clock. Those are the 2 basics any player needs to get to earn playing time for Donlon. Play good defense and run the offense until you have a high percentage shot. If you cannot get that, you are going to find yourself at the end of the bench. If you look at the guards Donlon is bringing in next year, they fit his system. Most of them are 3 point specialist that will excel in a motion offense. They are also very team oriented guys that work within their offense. Donlon isn't close to being on the hot seat at WSU so you might as well get used to him and his system.
