We should be the flagship of the Horizon League and no less. We should be the favorites to win it every year no matter what. That is what I think our sights should be set on not mediocrity. If Billy can schedule 3 teams in the top 100 and bring one of them in at the Nutter Center and win a couple of those and then finish the season at the top of the league with only 3 losses in the league at the most. That is success. Especially if go to the NCAA. Right now 19 Div 1 wins and going to the CIT or CBI is not success.

Why not replace Donlon with someone like Mark Baker or Darnell Hoskins that have ties to the Dayton area? If we could bring in a coach that has pull in the inner city of Dayton maybe Wright State could attract a lot of the local talent that wants to stay near home.

Yeah and why don't we go back to playing ball at Stebbins high school.

There isn't a chance in hell we will fire a coach that just took us to back to back HL championship games to hire a local high school coach with NO COLLEGE COACHING EXPERIENCE.

We have to get exciting basketball back on our court. The people who think defense wins the game haven't got the full concept of basketball. A good defense will allow your offense o win the game. Good rebounding is a part of the defense. Iit will be interesting to see if any players leave if BD stays or goes. I personally think BD's philosophy gives a negative input to the players. They need to be stimulated with positive input. I personally think he should go to UNCW if offered. I'm not sure they would offer. Everyone talks about he took us to two championship game. How many of the big games has he coached that resulted in wins. I think yesterday's game was another example of our defense holding the opponents to under their offensive output but our offense was lacking. A well coached team knows the offensive plays and can go into them by calling out the plays. BD has to tell them where to go during the play. The players need to be concentrating on the game not listening to a coach yelling for people to go here and there. There is a lot more parity in college basketball now because of greater number of players with skills. Coaches who understand their roles to develop offense and defense to meet the abilities of their players will be winning coaches.

If BD is willing to look at what was wrong and make the needed changes we could be better. We lose a lot but have some good offensive players coming in next year. I wonder if Kendall is not going to be cleared to play again or if someone is leaving. We are apparently recruiting a couple of JUCO center type players. We need the bulk and depth there. I also think we need to have some times we play a zone to protect the inside players from fouls because of the new emphasis of the refs. I am not totally against BD just his unilateral position of strategy. Exciting basketball can get fans back and winning will increase the attendance even more.

Billy's plan of bleeding the clock with a one point lead hasn't been mildly successful. Billy having every player under his thumb and telling them what to do constantly in games hasn't worked. Five players on court with chemistry following game plan>five players constantly restricted by Billy's idea of what they should be doing. Billy can't coach a team to victory in a game with much meaning. Billy doesn't recruit quality bigs (I know there are a couple with potential coming in next year), Billy doesn't coach rebounding as being very important, Billy's teams never show much toughness. Billy's scheduling sucks. We have the same issues year in year out, nothing changes, more mediocrity. He'll get extended though.

If he does I couldn't in good conscience invite friends to watch his games. I will go because I'm a Raider fan. But, wouldn't put anyone else through the agony of watching a non exciting game.

What does this say about the Horizon League that we finished in the last two years in the championship game. Is the league that bad now or were we that much better than every team in the league. Look at the women's basketball team when they ventured out into the real world of big time college basketball out from the blanket of the conference. Both teams need some height and bulk. I will say the women's game is more exciting to watch than the non-offense men's games. But I will be there too but I hate to watch a game where when we get an 8 point lead we hold ball even more than when we are behind.

To summarize: Our strength of schedule has dropped about 40 places each year since Donlon took over Our non-conference SOS dropped 176 spots in three years! In four years, the program has garnered just nine quality wins. Nine. Four of these happened in his first year Only two of them were over nonconference opponents In that same time, the raiders have lost almost as many (eight) games to teams with RPIs of 200+ Half of those were this year Until I actually saw it on the screen, I wasn't so sure. Now I'm convinced: Donlon shouldn't be extended. Not now, anyway. Does anybody have attendance and season ticket figures by year? I can't track those down this morning.

Add to that our retention rate of players:
Joe Bramanti Bobo Drummond Jacoby Roddy Julius Mays Armond Battle Vance Hall John Balwigaire Jason Cuffee Alex Pritchett Kegan Clark
That's ten players - a full rotation - in four years who left the program before their eligibility was up. Mays got a degree from Wright State and I think Battle did, as well.

I was being sarcastic, but trying to make a point that WSU needs to hire a coach that relates to the inner city talent. Hiring a high school coach to take over at WSU would be like electing a president who's main credentials were being a community organizer, it ain't gonna work. Anyway, WSU needs fearless players that can get up and down the court like a rocket and storm straight to the hole. WSU also needs a coach that doesn't pull his most talented offensive players off the court the second they make a mistake. i don't like working with a boss looking over my shoulder every minute, it makes me less productive, I'm sure it is the same for basketball players. I've been watching tons of games all weekend and the schools in the tourney just drive, drive, drive for the basket, and often make the shot or get free throws. Haven't seen a whole lot of teams passing the ball around for 30 seconds before jacking up a weak three.

Yeah, watching the offensive approach of every NCAA caliber team, it's not hard to see why the HL and WSU aren't successful in March.

In regards to the HL I don't think the league prepares teams for the caliber of talent you meet up with in the NCAA, with the exception of Butler which has exited the HL. I agree with the comments made above, though I can live with extending Donlon for up to 2 or even 3 more years. His recruiting for next year had me doubting him, but he has ended up with two big men and is actively trying to recruit a third. So maybe he, and Bradbury after yesterday, have acquired an appreciation for good big men and women. As an aside, I, for one, thought that the women played a decent game yesterday, but their top 3 players shot poorly from the field and KY dominated the boards with their height and talent. I think I heard the talking heads say that KY had 7 MacDonalds All Americans. WOW!!!
I do agree that his constant yelling of instructions is distracting to the team and probably contributes to some of their mistakes. I lone for the days of John Wooden.

Did we sign two 6-10 guys that are 240+ that I have not heard about?. 6-8 is not a big guy. We are about to get a third one?
