The only reason he might move down there is his daughter but it is a step backwards in his career. I don't see him going to a conference like that, he wants to move up not down. Everyone does have a price though, no matter what you put out there in the media. I don't know if he getting rich here but I think he does get a pretty good salary here. Got to admit the area has got to be better than the Dayton area with all the winter weather we had this year.

They are in the CAA which most years finished right around the HL. In the last 5 years, they finished ahead of the HL twice. UNCW has twice as many NCAA tournament appearances as WSU and they have an NCAA tournament victory under their belt. According to their message board they could also afford to pay him more than what we pay him now. Being closer to his daughter and coaching at his alma mater might matter more to him than you think.

Our roster just got much younger too, so he wouldn't be leaving much behind, if anything.

Bid D I would add that it is the best class of guards we have signed.

Bid D I would add that it is the best class of guards we have signed. I wouldn't make that distinction. It is the best class Donlon has signed, period. We have 4 guards in this incoming class, but we also have: 1. 6-8, 215# Roderick Davis in this class 2. 6-9, 235# red-shirt freshman Daniel Meyer will be a member of this class 3. we are still trying to sign a JUCO center in this class

As far as time and relationships, and if it's Donlon they like, he can take them there. Wright State would have to release them from their LOI first. Considering that we have 4 years invested in the recruitment of Evans and Thomasson, I don't know how quickly we would be willing to release them. All that is moot, IMO. I don't see Donlon leaving for a rebuilding process at UNCW when he has a good situation here. He has a similar mindset to Brownell and wants to move up the coaching ladder. He has a better chance getting a big time job by having success here over the next few years than going through a major rebuilding process at UNCW.

If true, it would be an enticing offer for him. He'd be closer to his daughter, coaching at his alma mater, better weather, could be on the beach if he wants, possibly more money, and close enough that he could visit Brownell. If they have spots open, he could go after some of the WSU recruits like Brownell brought Duggins to WSU. I think that if he is offered he'll go.
For now we'll have to sit tight and wait to see if the other shoe drops.
If we are trying to recruit a JUCO big man for next season, who else is leaving besides the 5 seniors?

Let's just hope it's nobody leaving besides the seniors. On top of that, if BD leaves and is able to woo recruits with him, it's not going to leave us sitting very pretty.

I don't see him leaving. It's a step down. Think about your own careers; it makes no sense to start over, especially with less of everything. Less recruiting budget, lesser talent, smaller staff, older and smaller facilities (no pavilion either), and a pay cut to top it off? I understand the pull of family, and I can understand wanting to be closer to my kid. But if you're making the claim he prefers to be closer to his ex-wife too? You're nuts! If you're not divorced, then it's hard to understand that sentiment. I am and I don't mind being as far away from her as I can get. :-)
You only make a move like this when you've got no where else to go or you're putting yourself out to pasture.
I know some of you guys aren't too impressed with Billy sometimes, but he is a good coach. He's smart. He's respectful of the situation he's in and represents our university well. He's a good teacher. And above all, he loves Wright State and his passion can't be questioned. We land a big-man to go with the guards and incoming players, and things look even brighter.
Billy's tenacious as hell and he knows his work isn't done here.
BigD, feel free to move this if necessary. Just my .02.

wolf, i will not be the least surprised if kendall g. is done with hoops. concussions (multiple) like he has had are not to be messed with.

Good point KofX. Sorry to say I had completely forgotten about him when considering who might leave. My guesses were Hopkins and Sledge, but I think you are right. Actually, I hope you are right. Griffin doesn't need to risk more concussions.
I am very anxious to see Meyer and R. Davis next season. The JUCOs are also looking very promising, if we get one. Adding another JUCO to go with Thomasson will boast next year's junior class to 4. Yoho and Collie are the two current sophomores. We'll have another 5 seniors next season.
It's funny how one season has ended and I'm already to see next season begin. We have to wait 7 months just for fall practice to begin.
The team we have coming in may be good enough for WSU to hold on to Donlon if UNCW comes knocking. On paper the 2014-15 squad looks like a potential contender for the title and having a good shot at competing in the NCAA if we get there. I think it will all depend on how good our big men are, as well as Thomasson. The freshmen guards will have time to sit and learn, getting playing time whenever the game situation allows it.
