I think something is going to give. I've read other transfer news around the country... but all is quiet. I'm not real versed on scholarship and eligibility requirements...but if we are two over...then we have to ask two people to pay their own way now? After offering a scholarship at first.... Kind of a slap in the face if it's me. But I know we've made mention of that in the past when we were over.... I think the feathers are still to be ruffled a bit. The most obvious would Griffin. It's an unfortunate situation, but three concussions in that amount of time could take him off the court for good. I believe someone on here mentioned that we would still be able to provide him his last year of continuing scholarship without him competing or counting against our numbers. Is there truth to that?

Our coaches aren't giving out scholarships that are taken by other players. They already know who isn't coming back. In regards to Griffin, if he decided to give up basketball due to the concussion problem he can remain on scholarship as a medical hardship waiver and he wouldn't count against the 13. Before anyone asks, I do not know who isn't coming back next year. With the early signing period starting tomorrow, I think we will find out soon enough how we are coming up with the extra scholarships.

Other than the thread for the schedule, this is the closest to being about next season. Reggie called me last night a little after seven. It was to thank me for being a season ticket holder ( similar to what players did before ). Not sure how many times Kendall tried last year but, he ended up leaving a voicemail ( since I never seemed to be at home ). Reggie tried the cellphone and I had just left a high school baseball game. Anyway, some of you may get a call if you haven't already. I don't want to guess who might start. Jeff Goodman ( CBS Sports ) revised his transfer list yesterday and there are a lot of names on there ( none from WSU yet, of course ).

With so many new faces next season it is too difficult to say who the 5 starters will be, but as the old saying goes, "fools rush in", so here it goes.
Given this past season's play, I think Reggie will start, unless the coach wants to play tall. In that case I think Thomasson will be the PG. If he doesn't start at PG he'll either be the SG or possibly the SF.
On second thought, that's it. I'm done. The rest is too unknown.
The potential players returning for next season, excluding walk-ons, will be S. Davis, Reggie, Howell, Yoho, Griffin, Hopkins, Meyer, and Sledge. One or more of them will not be back. The 3 most likely players to NOT return next season IMO will be Griffin, Hopkins, and possibly Sledge. Griffen may step aside due to his concussions. Hopkins could graduate and move on with his life or play ball elsewhere ala Mays. Sledge is the question mark. I could see him wanting to move on in life now that he has a son. He could opt to play overseas. But I could also see him wanting to have his senior year. Then there is the possiblity of someone going off scholarship to make room for a new recruit. I really don't want to lose Davis and Howell as I think they have the potential to contribute next season and beyond.
In any case, I look forward to next season with anticipation of the unknown.

Who should start is different from who will start, especially with Donlon. I know we may learn more about who will/won't be here soon, but I think that BD's starting five as of now would be (assuming Kendall is not back):
PG: Hopkins if he stays. SG: Reggie. He played much better last year and is a 4 year program kid. He's starting if healthy. SF: Stephen Davis: If anything, he can guard multiple spots. It's hard to see Davis starting if Donlon was so reluctant to start JY, but I think he'll make his way to the line-up PF: Yoho. I almost put Karena, but I think Donlon will initially show some loyalty to JT. C: Sledge. Like Reggie, four year program kid, he's been in some tough games, and even though it's a drop-off from AJ offensively, he's a great defender.
Again, this is not who I think should start. I think that we'll have 9-10 guys playing 18-20 minutes a game anyways.

Looks like we are only one over the limit for next year. I think most of us assumed Parker Ernsthausen was going to red-shirt. It looks like he has agreed to pay his own way next year while he red-shirts and then receive a scholarship starting in 2015/16. That's pretty much what Matt Vest agreed to do before someone transferred and we were able to put Vest on scholarship right away. It's a good deal all around for us. We are able to add a post player in Karena that can help us right away and Ernsthausen gets to spend a year putting on weight and getting acclimated to the college game without wasting any eligibility. I am excited about both of these young men. I think Karena can help us right away and I see a lot of AJ Pacher in Ernsthausen. Both guys grew late in high school and only had 1 year of playing in the paint under their belt before they came to college. AJ got better and better each year he was here. I wish we red-shirted him his first year and had another year to see just how far he would have developed. We get that chance now with Ernsthausen. www.bcsn.tv/news_article/show/375756

So is Kendall the only one, so far at least, who is not returning? Based off the comments I assume this is true, but I have not seen anything on the board(s). Thanks

I got a call from AJ, which was special. I asked about his workout and he was happy with things. I Wished him well on his pursuit of a pro career. I'm not sure who will or won't be back, but I am anxious about watching games next season. I do hope that the emphasis on the game is defense, rebounding and offense.

Getting back to the original topic, I think our starting 5 this year will be Reggie, Joe Thomasson, Kendall, JT, an Sledge

Status on Griffin? I was in the camp he would not be returning, and maybe nothing has been decided, but he is splashed on the front of the season ticket renewal packet. Also, didn't Donlon mention him in passing at least one story in the DDN recently?

SG: Reggie SF: Griffin PF: Yoho. C: Sledge. Don't necessarily think this will be the starting 5, but I could Donlon starting off the year with his 4 seniors and Yoho. Only other thing I could see would be Davis starting over Griffin or Hopkins (in which case Reggie would be the main ball handler).

Reggie is listed as 5-8. He is lucky to be 5-7 with shoes on. He isn't going to play SG for us.
