Is there a realistic chance we can add Bill Edwards Jr to this class? I think so, otherwise I wouldn't have wasted the time to open up his old recruiting thread and update it.

Where would his scholarship come from? We have a full roster.

Where would his scholarship come from? We have a full roster. Bill Edwards Sr is working at Wright State as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. I believe that would make Bill Jr eligible for free tuition at Wright State so he wouldn't need to be on scholarship.

But when my mother worked at WSU, I went at a much discounted rate. Not sure if that has changed over the years or not and I did not count against the scholarship total back then.

Wasn't this Reynaldo Smith's initial plan before our roster dropped to nine players in the 06-07 season?
Also, isn't there some weird rule about transferring twice and not being able to take an athletic scholarship? I remember Walter Offutt running into something like that when he transferred out.

I am pretty sure no such rules exists. Julius Mays for example transferred twice and received a scholarship from all 3 schools.

Is there a realistic chance we can add Bill Edwards Jr to this class? A better question is why would we want to add him to this class? He had a chance to come to Wright State out of high school. He had a chance to come to Wright State wen he transferred to Miami Ohio. He has been more injury prone than John David Gardner when he was at Wright State. Why would we want him now?

A better question is why would we want to add him to this class? He had a chance to come to Wright State out of high school. He had a chance to come to Wright State when he transferred to Miami Ohio. He has been more injury prone than John David Gardner when he was at Wright State. Why would we want him now? Why? Because there is absolutely no downside to adding him and there could potentially be huge upside to adding him. He wouldn't be on scholarship. He would be a walk on getting most of his tuition paid for since his father works at Wright State so he wouldn't be taking away a scholarship from anyone. Since he wouldn't be on scholarship there is no risk involved. If he has another injury plagued year it wouldn't hurt us. We already have a full roster and don't need to rely on him to have success. Anything we get out of him is a bonus. I think the absolute worse case scenario would be that Edwards comes to Wright State and is a role player that fights through an injury plagued last year of college basketball. He is an experienced guy that has been on a college roster for 5 years already. If nothing else his experience will come in handy in games and in practice for our young roster. I also think at a minimum, his presence will increase attendance. I think there are many long time fans of the program that are huge Bill Edwards fans. I think many will come back to see Bill Jr. play. Now that was all worse case scenario. Best case scenario is that Bill Jr. can stay healthy and put it all together and live up to his potential. He was a highly ranked recruit coming out of high school. He has shown flashes of being a great player at both Penn State and Miami. If he can put it all together he could be an All-HL player for us in his single season as a Raider. I look at a guy like Matt Vest and think of what could happen for Edwards here. Vest also had an injury plagued career at Wright State. It was 50/50 going into last season if he was even going to play. He was able to rise to the occasion and had a very solid senior year and earned himself a pro career in Europe. Another example is Cain Doliboa. He had a somewhat injury plagued career at UD and came to Wright State for a single season of basketball. He was an All-HL player and made a living playing ball in Europe after he graduated from Wright State. I don't see any reason why Bill Jr. couldn't do the same if he decides to transfer here.

I totally agree BigD. I see no downside to Bill Jr. coming to WSU for one season. At the best end of the spectrum he could play and do a great job for us. At the worst he could be bothered by injuries and play very little, BUT he isn't occupying a scholarship so there is no loss for WSU. I think the long time WSU fans would love to see him take the court wearing the green and gold.
