This won't end up well for the HL. YSU is going to pump even more money into their D 1AA football program at the expense of all of their other sports.

My guess (just a guess), is that they would start to look at moving into the MAC. Wouldn't be bad for HL, if we could get two good teams as replacement. My biggest worry right now is that Lecrone wants a midwest league so bad, our next two schools would be IUPUI and IPFW. That way, he could keep his cushy office in Indy.

My biggest worry right now is that Lecrone wants a midwest league so bad, our next two schools would be IUPUI and IPFW. That way, he could keep his cushy office in Indy. I don't ever see YSU to the MAC, even with Pelini there. 1. Pelini won't be at YSU for long. He is at YSU because he couldn't find another head coaching job after getting fired by Nebraska. He will use YSU to rehab his image and move on to a better job in a few years. And it won't be more than a few years until he moves on. Nebraska is basically paying his salary the next few years. His buyout at Nebraska is for quite a bit of money and will be supplementing his salary at YSU the next few years. He won't stay at YSU when that runs out. 2. YSU cannot afford to move to the MAC. The average athletic budget in the MAC is 20-30 million a year. YSU would need to add 10 million a year to their budget to be at the lower end of the MAC in terms of budget. They don't have any big donors to come close to making that happen. 3. The MAC doesn't want them. Kent State and Akron will never let them in. They both have veto power to stop it and there is no need for the MAC to expand. That being said, I think the HL would be more than happy to let them go. It would make HL expansion easier. Right now we are trying to add 3 teams to keep the numbers even and to keep travel partners. Drop YSU and add Belmont and Lipscomb. The HL is at 10 again. CSU and WSU become travel partners. Belmont and Lipscomb become travel partners. Unfortunately I think we are stuck with YSU unless they look to join the CAA in all sports (which makes more sense for them travel wise compared to their current football conference and the HL).

HL-WCC Challenge?: Waters said HL coaches have discussed the possibility about taking part in a "conference challenge" as early as next season. Possibilities could be with the West Coast Conference or the Colonial. "We really want to do that,"Waters said about the HL taking part in a conference challenge. "We got to find a way to play the WCC next year. I will promote this [at our next coaches meetings]. That is something that can help our league." clevelandstatehoops.blogspot.com/2015/01/csu-basketball-notebook-cleveland-state.html

That's a nice match-up....but it'd be nicer to do this with some in the region. MAC, OVC, Summit etc...but I guess beggers can't be choosers.
