I think we have the personnel to go uptempo, if we have the coach to do it will be seen. It is encouraging to hear that news, if true. I want the team to be successful and have fun winning. If we do go uptempo another quick 6' 5"+ player would be acceptable.

We only have four big men, two of whom have missed games every year. If those two go down we'll have two bigs left or only one on the court at a time. That translates to two bigs getting worn out quickly or injured or Ill. If that happens I think you can kiss the 20 win season goodby.

Wolf, do you really think we would have a twenty game win with a half court game with the personnel we have? We played half court last year and we had injuries. I would rather watch an exciting game as a loss than a dull game as a loss. But I go to cheer the Raiders hopefully to a victory.

Given a choice between an exciting loss or a dull loss, I think all fans would vote for an exciting loss. My point was that if we start the season with only 4big men, given the medical histories of Yoho and Davis, we will be tempting the Fates, and unlikely to have many exciting games. We saw what happened last year when we only had 4 big men. I see no reason to expect a different outcome this season if we only have 4 big men unles Yoho and Davis AND everyone else can stay injury and illness free.

No talk about the Biggie Minnis transfer? Not that he'll be a star or anything close, but that was a solid addition (especially at this late stage). We needed some PG depth. Could use another big for sure, but hopefully we'll stay healthy there and will be fine.

He has played 3 seasons at 2 different schools and lost his starting spot at both schools. He didn't put up many points or have many assists for a PG in any of his 3 seasons. His FG % and FT shooting % were also horrible. I hope he turns it around at WSU and can contribute next year, but he hasn't done anything yet to get me excited about the addition.

I like the addition if for no other reason then because it gives us some depth at point guard where we had zero experience otherwise. Our other options before this transfer were to play a true freshman or have a combo guard like Mitchell run the point exclusively next year.
I've seen a Brownell/Donlon offense run with a true point guard (John David Gardner) and without and its no comparison.

Good point ohiopirate. But a coach and his staff must also look at balance between guards and big men and also consider skill sets of a center vs a power forward vs a small forward vs a 6'4" guard. I don't know if I have ever seen a coach construct his team, especially a successful team, along the blueprint Billy uses. But I'll still be at the games rooting for WSU. Of course my rooting doesn't help in rebounding against big teams or help our defense against big offensive scoring threats down in the paint.

I think anyone that has seen Biggie play the last 2 seasons at Rhode Island is happy he is a Raider. I think he fits Donlon's system well and he is a tough kid. I hated watching Reggie and Chrishawn get pushed around last season. Nothing against those guys. They were just small guards that got physically dominated by bigger guards. We aren't going to see that this year with Biggie and J Mitchell at PG.

Wow, tough crowd. Who did some of you think we were going to get at this late stage? Class of '79 is especially pessimistic.
I think Biggie is a solid addition. Will be interesting to revisit this thread in a few months.

Will be interesting to revisit this thread in a few months. Seriously? We are at this late stage because Donlon hasn't got the job done in the last 4+ months? At the very least, Donlon knew Grant and Howell weren't returning to WSU back in March, but I think almost our entire fan base was predicting at least one of them wasn't going to return several months before that. Donlon has spent the last 4+ months offering scholarships to and wiffing on multiple JUCO PGs and post players. At this late stage I would have expected him to have already filled both scholarships and be focused on next year's recruiting instead of wasting time signing recruits like this.

Ernsthausen is still in workouts with the team, so it appears he will be playing at Wright State this season.

WSU told him to look elsewhere because they thought they were going to find a JUCO big? Ernsthausen wanted to transfer, but had second thoughts? Or he wanted to transfer, but couldn't find any D-I scholarship offers? Very interesting development. I hope this means everything is OK with Karena and Roderick Davis.
