ecb123, well if we are using that criteria then... Hope you're right, of course.

Yeah...if we go 1-2 like last year, it will suck and be a waste. With what we have coming back, at least 2-1. On other hand, I am excited that we got GSU on the schedule to come here. Dayton native Ron Hunter coming back, with a team that beat UWGB and OU last year. That is a good chance to get a quality win against a quality mid-major.

So far the schedule looks to be promising, but we still need to see who we will be hosting at the Nutter.

So far the schedule looks to be promising, but we still need to see who we will be hosting at the Nutter. The schedule is almost done. Last year we had 14 OOC games including the 3 we played in the South Carolina tournament. We will play 2 less OOC games this year since NKU joined the HL. We already have 10 games lined up for next year, leaving 2 left to schedule. My guess is we try to start one more home/home series starting at the Nutter Center and we buy one game vs a D2 school. Worse case is we will play 2 home buy games vs D2 schools. Home games:Georgia State Bowling Green Charleston Southern Road games:Kentucky Xavier George Mason Miami (OH) Northern Illinois Tournament (Cal State Northridge, Northern Illinois, South Dakota)

Per the season ticket renewal email:
"The coaches are currently finishing what we anticipate to be a 15 game home schedule for the year that currently includes 3 defending mid-major league/conference champions. The full non-league schedule will be released in the next two weeks, with the HL schedule released when we receive permission from the league.

Then we've got some good things still coming....15 home games, less 9 conference games, less 3 already announced, leaves 3...
There still's at least one good game (by my math)..The only OOC team that qualifies as the "defending MM/conference champion" is Georgia State (obviously Valpo), but it sounds like there's going to be one more.
After that, leaves 2, one of those (possibly both) being a local non-D1 school. Either way, glad to see things are still moving forward.

I think Charleston Southern tied for the Big South regular season, so I guess you could call them conference champs. Hopefully the last conference champ is an out of conference team champ and they are not playing with words and the last is Valpo the HL champ when they list 3 MM champs coming.

"...currently includes 3 defending mid-major league/conference champions."
With only BGSU, Charleston Southern, and Georgia State the only known OOC home games I read the WSU statement to include Valpo as one of the 3 defending mid-major league/conference champions.

Murray State is coming to Nutter next year. That along with Georgia State are two big time OOC games against strong mid major programs. Murray State has long been the big fish in the Ohio Valley.

just a couple of thoughts on this schedule. I like the fact that six of our opponents finished in the top 1/2 of rpi last year. that is a solid start. I think we have once again gotten into a pretty crummy exempt tournament that does nothing positive for our program but at this point maybe that is the best we can get. george mason and miami were pretty bad rpi teams but one is a rival and one is an a-10 team so both make sense for us. I hope our home non con opponents get off to good starts before we see them. with that and some good marketing perhaps we can attract some casual hoop fans to the nutter for those games.
until we can wrangle invites to some quality exempt tournies with some teams that would give us a chance for a quality win or two I would prefer we work a little harder to get some home and home series with quality mid majors. mvc, a-10 and mac all have good teams that would give us quality opponents. this schedule thus far has the potential to build a little local momentum for the program. I hope we do not throw cold water on that mo by bringing in a couple of div ii or iii teams.
final thought, i do not know what the horizon league tv schedule will look like but the x and uk games will probably be on tv. I hope we compete in those games and do not do another osu boondoggle like we had last year. I hope we present a positive face on the program in those games.
