Perhaps this is in the wrong topic area, but my thoughts are precipitated by former Raiders who have transferred out of the program. It's well chronicled about the number of transfers out of the program under B.D. However, that is the reality of Div. I hoops at most programs. I would be curious to see the average number of transfers and how Wright State compares. My gut tells me we would be on the high side, but that's just a guess.
More importantly (the Evans news got me thinking), how many players have had to transfer down? In other words, didn't have a willing Div. I program to give them a scholarship. Each situation is unique and there are many reasons a player chooses a particular school, but it seems as if we have had an inordinate number of kids who transfer down. I can think of at least 3 in the past 5 years. I would be interested to see how those numbers compare to other mid-major (not low major) programs.

I think there are a number of reasons. Throw out the one-and-done's, grad transfers, and even mid-season transfers and I still think the transfers probably hit more than an average of one per school. There isn't any stigma attached ( which may be why Billy said at one of his radio shows that you need to keep recruiting players you already have ). As for playing down, it could be a desire to play right away. I think there is a rule that if a player doesn't get a release then the new school can't pay right away, too ( although I'm sure Evans and Howell don't have that problem. Mid-majors may hesitate paying for transfers to sit a year. Anyway, I would hope that WSU would pay attention to ( ESPN ) Jeff Goodman's transfer list.
Was wondering about the position of my post. Guess Big D will move it to the new thread...perhaps adding to the discussion.

mrose, we had three in one year i think. cuffee, pritchett and hall. then we had Drummond a couple of years ago. I think roddy went jc so we don't know where he will end up. evans has gone naia. battle went to urbana but I am not sure if that was in the past five years. then we have lett who left us for parts unknown. but since he had no div i offers but us (a particularly annoying point to me), my guess is he will end up somewhere other than div i.
i think all of this is a reflection upon bd's recruiting. I think generally speaking that div i quality athletes want to play against div i quality athletes.

Keith, I believe our thinking is in-line. Also, what about the former Navy guy BD gave a 'ship to without seeing play, stole a box of condoms, and later left (kicked off?)? Didn't he transfer down to Columbus State (GA)?

Jacoby Roddy played at Lincoln Trail JC last year. He played 4.5 minutes per game and scored 3.8 pts per game. Bobo Drummond is playing at the University of Southern Indiana, a D2 school. He averaged 32 minutes/game and scored 9.9 pts/game. Jason Cuffee is playing at Cedarville College, which is D2. He played 30 minutes/game and averaged 10.4 pts/game. Alex Pritchett is playing for the University of Saint Francis, and NAIA school in Ft Wayne. He played 6 minutes/game and averaged 2.3 pts/game.
None of them are on a D1 roster, and only 2 of them are making any kind of impact playing for their current teams which compete at a lower level.

Tyler Koch? Just out of curiousity as I don't remember where he ended up going...He had a pretty shot in warmups...Grant Evans reminded me of his stroke actually.

op, I think he went to ball state. bbj, so we recruit a number of players who cannot make much of an impact even at lower levels and bd brings them in to have an impact at div i. and we wonder why we struggle.

Koch played 15 minutes a game last season for BSU, and averaged just over 2ppg. Just over 50% form the line, 27% from 3 point range. Doesn't look like we're missing out on much.

Someone please give Grant, Hopkins, and Donlon an open invitation to join the choir. It would be nice if they too would hear the message that the remaining, but dwindling, congregation knows by heart.
