This is BS. Playing in Detroit is NOT a neutral site. It gives 2 schools in the conference a distinct advantage. If the HL wants to go to a neutral site format they need to do it in a destination city that HL fans want to visit and it needs to be a truly neutral site where no HL team has a geographical advantage. Detroit is a dumpster fire of a city. No HL fan outside of Detroit and Oakland is going to have fans that want to go there and spend 4-5 days for a tournament.

Agreed, bad idea. Detroit...who the hell wants to spend a week in that dump? No surprise that money is the root of this decision. Detroit is desperate for tourism so is willing to make the investment. Other cities not so much.
Even worse though are the 5 non-Michigan schools voting in favor of this...for 5 years? 1 year I can see, but a 5 year lock?

Freakin horrible. I cannot believe that our administration would vote for this...this really takes away a lot of the importance of the regular season. We'll end up being like those other minor conferences that have their 3 vs. 5 seed play in front of 500 fans at a neutral court....

The HL is going to look like a true low major conference having a few thousand fans (if we are lucky) in that 20K arena watching the championship game on national TV.

And not to beat a dead horse, but how on earth did WSU not parlay the success of the First Four to have WSU host this? I understand its apples to oranges, but still...

A tuesday night championship game between Wright State and Green Bay in Detroit will look great for the Horizon League (Caution Sarcasm)

I have really liked the format of having the winner of the regular season host the tournament. It makes for great atmospheres. I have been in Hinkle for a final, in the Nutter for 2, and in Valpo for one. The atmosphere is unreal. Having it at a neutral site like Detroit is going to draw flies. Maybe they can bus people in like UIC does for all there games to make it look like there are fans. No one in Detroit shows up for UDM games as is, and while Oakland fills their gym its small.

Wow. Just because we start acting like the MVC and power conferences does not make us a big time league. I feel like we just skipped steps 1 through 7 of building a respectable league and jumped straight to step 8...neutral site tourament. It doesn't work that way.

And it is in Joe Louis Arena??? I would rather play at the Detroit YMCA! Granted in a couple years they will have a shiny new arena and all but come on!

If I may play devil's advocate for a moment, this could end up being really good for the league. I mean, when you really think about it, it um...
...uh
...I mean, we'll, uh...
...it'll really help with....
Holy shit, I got nothing here. This is stupid stupid stupid.

LeCrone and his crew got pissed off after Green Bay lost 2 seasons ago and the finals had to be moved to WSU. Under the old format it only moved that one time, but the league is showing they are lazy and looking for a quick pay day. If they want to rotate it I guess I could be talked into that, Cleveland one year, Chicago another. I will say by not having it in Indy, it shows me IUPUI is not the new HL member.

"The deal with the Joe involves $200,000 per year for the Horizon League, with $20,000 per school."
Does that mean there will be a 10th member or is the HL pocketing $20K?

It would make sense if we had traveling fan bases. We don't. When Wright State plays here, you guys have 20-30 at best. When we play there, we have 10-15 at best (title game notwithstanding).
Could you imagine if the 2015 title game had been played in Detroit? Would Valpo and Green Bay sent even a combined 200 fans?
You just have to shake your head and laugh at this league sometimes.
