I am hopeful that we will land a 13th scholarship player by August. Because any team can sustain injuries, illneses, and other issues that leave them seriously shorthanded. My preference is that we land a legit big man whose height is at least 6'6". I know Donlon always has his eye on more guards, but I'm hoping for a legit center or power forward. I am very happy with Karena, but we need a decent JC center or a JC power forward who can play defense and hit the boards. Whatever points they score will be a plus for us.

This is why no one reads the DDN anymore. The writer didn't ask a single question most fans cared about. He could have asked about next year's schedule. He could have asked about the new assistant coaches. He could have asked about how our returning players are looking in practice. He could have tried to find out more about the 1-2 new players Donlon mentioned in the last article (position, D1 transfers, JUCOs, foreign, etc).

I enjoyed the article/interview. I care about what Donlon expects to be the biggest improvement and our biggest challenge. I thought his take on the 30 second shot clock was interesting. How many DDN subscribers do you think really care about our new assistant coaches?

I think the article was a big whiff too. The reason the DDN has been going through the death march as a company for the last decade is they don't understand what their readers want. The same can be said for WSU and why our fan base continues to decline. If you are going to write an article about a sports team you write that article for the fans of that sports team. The only DDN subscribers that read that article were WSU fans and as a WSU fan it didn't answer anything I wanted to know about this team. You liked Donlon's answers about the biggest improvement and biggest challenge. Go back and read any interview he has given in the summer since he has been our head coach. He gives the same generic "coach speak" answers every year. I'm with Jazzfan. I don't want to read some generic BS answers or read about Donlon's family life. I want some answers to reals questions about our basketball program. I have given up on knowing what our schedule will be like before I renew my season tickets each year but it isn't too much to ask to at least know who our coaches are and what our roster looks like by the end of June. Donlon could really help improve attendance if he gave our fan base something to get excited about.

With the Reds apparently fighting to stay near .500 and no significant WSU basketball news I have turned my attention to OSU football again. But I will admit that I'm also interested in seeing WSU fall sports returning in late August. As for WSU basketball, wake me when there is something to report on the schedule or recruiting.

I think mrose was right in a post above. Billy just offered a scholly to a transfer from Rhode Island,a 6'2" point guard.

Donlon must see some pretty serious intangibles with this guy because his stat line leaves something to be desired: 26.1% from three 48% from the stripe 0.5 spg
He DID have 72 assists to 44 turnovers last year, so that's something.

I'm not concerned about the points per game, though the shooting % is what it is. He also played at a winning program and hopefully will bring some much needed maturity and can-do attitude to the team. We still need a big, especially given S. Davis' and Yoho both coming off injuries, but this would be a good add to the roster. It also would allow us to redshirt and develop one of it not both of the freshman coming in. In fact, that may be how we free up a second 'ship...perhaps Vest or Hughes pays his way one year and RS, and then is put on scholarship the next.

You can't always go by school stats. I remember one college recruit ( you can argue about the age being a factor sometimes in the recruiting process ) that had college coaches drooling over his AAU ball before the kid even played his first high school game ). Anyway, how many times did you hear someone's stock going up or down a month leading up to the NBA draft ( as if the college season didn't matter ).
Anyway, with this particular potential recruit, guess the teams that recruited him before think he could still help.
Although Coach Days was here ( guess working on a temporary agreement ), I thought it would be made official yesterday ( July 1st ). Maybe that's not the case...maybe WSU is waiting to announce more staff replacements. Coach Days has been in the university directory but not the one for Athletics ( if that means anything ).

You just scared the crap out of me. LOL. At first I thought you were going to say he was leaving us for a pro team in New Zealand. Wheeeew. I think the big fella can have a very nice senior season for us.

He changed his twitter bio to Wright State assistant so I'd say that's pretty much confirmed now if it wasn't already.
