So when do you think we will find out about our 1 practice game. Seems like a scheduling afterthought.

The practice game is closed to the public and we usually don't hear anything about it until after it happens.

In years past we have had a closed game with a D1 team (Eastern Ky. Ball State =====) and a game the long suffering fans could attend with a D2 or D3 team. Has this changed and if so why? A pall of secrecy? NCAA rules limit to 1 game?

A pall of secrecy? NCAA rules limit to 1 game? Nothing has changed. You have the option of playing 2 games. They can both be vs. lower level schools and open to the public. They can both be closed scrimmages vs. D1 schools or 1 of each.

For years the symbol of the new basketball season was the first exhibition game which got me in the mood big time. In those days there were two and I felt it was part of my season ticket package. For the last few years the was only one. This year unless you guys know something I don't there are none. Apparently they have been replaced with closed door scrimmages. As a loyal fan I really feel cheated with this closed door approach especially with four of the first five games on the road. Not fan friendly and kind of selfish to close things off. Other teams have them why not us? Billy paranoid?

Detroit didn't have any exhibition games either.

Those games were part of your season ticket package and part of the reason they went away is because many season ticket holders have complained about having to purchase tickets to meaningless exhibition games as part of the season ticket package. Personally, I am glad WSU went away from having these exhibitions. I think the team benefits more from scrimmaging 2 D1 teams. I wish we had a preseason intra team scrimmage like UD's red and blue game. It wouldn't count against the 2 scrimmage/exhibition limit and it would give our fans a chance to see the guys play to build up some excitement for the upcoming season. Most importantly, it would be free.

'79, I don't disagree with what you posted but, I like new guys to play in front of fans ( hopefully friendly and supportive )...may not get rid of all of the jitters of their first real college game but it can't hurt...and, I still think that early in the year I like being on the main arena floor ( the background/depth perception can't be imitated in the pavilion ).

Supposedly we scrimmaged Loyola yesterday in Chicago. Coaches can speak about the scrimmage afterwards. Anybody have any info on how the team did? Anything news worthy on individual players?

I went to UD's red and blue scrimmage several years ago with some friends that are UD fans. It was run first class and was a real treat for their fans. I don't know why we don't have a similar type event instead of the Halloween hoopla crap we usually run. It's just a wasted opportunity.

I enjoyed the pre-season games, but can't say I miss seeing lopsided games from the past. I did enjoy seeing tightly contested games even if we lost.
I do regret the late start to the regular season at home, for both teams. The women open at home on the 19th, but did play an exhibition game this weekend. The men open on the 24th.
I thought the women looked very strong even with 6 freshmen. I like their overall height. There are two at 5'6", two at 5'8", three at 5'9", and 6 between 5'10 and 6'5". I can't say anyone looked or played like a freshman.

A few hours ago I asked Billy about the decision to do 2 closed scrimmages and, he thought because of the new rule changes it would be better. Makes sense to me...some years back I stumbled into a closed scrimmage ( they didn't kick me out but, I couldn't stay long anyway ).
He also said that it is against the rules to say who the closed scrimmages are against ( seems like word gets out most of the time ).

Cheats the season ticket holders of two more chances to see the teams we love at a time when we are exited and really want to see them learn the new players etc. Still seems a paranoid way of coaching to me and not fan friendly. By the way, I got a publication from the athletic dept through the mail and in bold print the schedule it had was last years. My wife and I couldn't believe it. That is a great way to promote the coming season - the wrong schedule.

That is a great way to promote the coming season - the wrong schedule. and only half of last year's schedule as well - it cuts off in January. Not a good look. I saw the exhibition game listed on there and first thought it was strange that was the first I was hearing we scheduled an exhibition.
