They have missed too many close range shots. At least they have been getting decent shots.

Pleasantly surprised that we weren't blown out of the house. We have to be the most fouled team in college basketball right now. I don't care who you are, or who you play..you won't win if your opponent shoots 40 FTs, no matter how bad they are.

That was a good learning experience, particularly for Ernsthausen, Hughes, and Vest.

Going point-by-point here since I wasn't able to get to the message board during the game.
1. KY was tied for 9th in the country with 8.0 blocks per game going into this. We allowed just one. We were taking good shots in the first half, but couldn't get them to fall. 2. Yoho was in total control in the first half but his shots just weren't falling. He will recover from that. 3. Thomasson. Come on, man! Rise above it. 4. Karena was holding his own out there minus fouls. 12 minutes, buddy. You gotta do better than that. 5. Ernsthausen is visibly nervous when he gets the ball live (though he's got a good stroke from the line). 6. What did Roderick Davis do to Billy Donlon to get so far into the dog house? 7. What did Justin Mitchell do to Billy Donjon to get so far into the dog house? For a guy expected (by many) to start, he wasn't seeing a lot of action. 8. New rule: In the extremely unlikely event we ever get such a foul disparity in our favor - regardless of whether or not it is correct - our fans are not allowed to complain about calls. Period. 9. Man, am I glad we have Benzinger for two more years. He's going to be special for us. 10. We're still three guys down. Mortensen and Minnis have yet to put on a Wright State uniform and poor Stephen Davis has John David Gardner Syndrome (made of glass). Any one of those guys has the potential to change the entire look of the team. 11. *sigh*

Pleasantly surprised that we weren't blown out of the house. Pleasantly surprised? I'm ecstatic. Did you guys not watch the Duke game on Tuesday?

Gerb, Parker was more offensive minded tonight compared to the first 3 games. I thought passing and screening was pretty good at the NIU Showcase but, he wasn't really looking to shoot ( so maybe I didn't see any visible nervousness ). Coach Donlon made a point of praising Parker's defense up at NIU ( maybe a hint for Michael to work a little harder but, Karena sat out the first game as a precaution from concussion recovery ).
Justin arrived late for the first game because of a death in the family ( he wasn't suited up ). He wore a mask in games 2 and 3 but, he didn't wear it tonight ( not sure if that caused him to miss practice ).
For what it is worth, after UK pulled their point guard he was end at the end.

Hadn't thought about that facial injury possibly still having an effect. I know he saw some junk time along with the freshmen, but that's not what I would have expected, especially with Joe out of the game so early.

If I go to Rupp Arena again I will sit in the lower arena if possible. If you don't any seat in the Nutter Center is better than sitting on the bleachers. Can't believe how many blue shirts are in the stands.
Joe Thomasson needs to calm that attitude down. Let the jawing go over his head and play ball. Getting technical fouls or ejections out of a game are not going to be good for the team. We need him on the court.
More screening to get Benzinger open more is needed.

Calapari's post game comments: COACH CALIPARI: Yeah, we're just -- look, this was, Wright State played pack line, they played zone, they stayed in the lane, they spread the court. They picked one of my guys who couldn't guard the dribbler. And they hung around because of it. Billy (Donlon) did a great job. They did what they had to do to have a chance to win. They had a chance to win the whole game. I didn't think we played particularly well, but I’ve got to give Wright State credit for having us play that way ....Plus more: www.lex18.com/story/30574464/caliparis-post-game-comments-after-uk-tops-wright-state-78-63

I can't watch this massacre. I am going to watch the UC/USC football game. I hope you switched over to the Raiders by halftime. That Bearcat football first half was depressing!

i watched the game on the sec network. kind of a two hour commercial for uk hoops. a couple of thoughts about what i saw. first, i have been very critical of bd's recruiting. i think he has brought way to many div ii level players to wsu. but i have to give him some recruiting props right now. i think he has recruited four really high mid major level recruits for the raiders. the level recruit that xavier,, gonzaga or witchita state would recruit. in fact, if you dropped any of those four into most bcs rosters they would be in the top eight rotation. they are that good. very impressive.
the flip side of that coin is that the backups thus far look very weak. hopefully getting the three injured recruits back will change that, but i would hate to count on the bench players i have seen.
second, watching them play friday left one question in my mind. how could a group of players look at least competitive against uk lose to a pretty crummy pair of mid majors like cal state ( on a neutral court no less) and niu. truth is during bd's tenure he has lost games to teams with way less talented players. that needs to change hopefully soon.
third, i think it is a shame that a thread devoted to a game with the Kentucky wildcats has to be followed by a thread devoted to a game with mt. st. josephs. if you want this program to be respected locally these games must stop.
I do look forward to seeing the raiders in person in the games right before christmas.
