JB is doing the right thing as an announcer. Talking up the Raiders is his job. What if he started saying that "I can't understand why Donlon scheduled these guys". He would not be around long. He loves Raider basketball and that is why he is there. George Mason is a good team and will probably make the Big Dance and it won't be because they slaughtered us on the court.

hh, two thoughts. first jb last night said that Gma was picked to finish 13th in a 14 team league. so while you could be right that they are big dance bound, that is not what the experts think.
second, telling raider fans that a div iii team is really good and will be a challenge for us is not "talking up the raiders. it is telling us we play at a div iii level. everyone should be embarrassed by a comment like that.

Keith the people follow WSU understand why Brown and company say those things. I don't ever think you will see Chris or Jim say anything that is negative about any coaching staff or the schools decisions about scheduling.

hh, no one is expecting jb or cc to disparage anyone. just don't talk up a div iii team like they are our equal on the court.

Wright State has great potential and is the middle of the best basketball recruits in the country. The school has decent facilities and at least should be competitive within the Horizon League Conference. A few years ago when schools were looking to form mega conferences, Wright State was not part of the conversation. The school needs a proven leader and I'm afraid the current coach does not have the kind of personality that draws in top recruits. Rethink from the top down and Raider fans will once again have something that they will be proud about.

Does anyone know how long Coach Donlon's contract runs? Whats up with the starting lineups including the freshman Parker E over Mike? Do we have a coach for offense? It seems like everyone is lost on offense.

Personally I wish the NCAA would do us the favor of banning DI teams from playing lower division teams. Of course that would set off a rush to play teams rated below 250, but we could live with that, and DI would be better for it. Of course that wish won't come to pass, at least for a long time. I am anxious to get these first 2 home games behind us so that we can see how we stack up against DI teams. I think we have a better team than evidenced so far, but I am anxious to find out. I think Billy is starting to recognize the importance of height, but he is not quite there. Recruiting bigger guards may be helpful, but recruiting some PFs and Cs that are solid players AND being recruited by other DI programs in the Midwest is the next step he needs to take. Taking such players from the scraps left after DI programs have completed their recruiting may not turn the tide in our favor.

Opti, Billy's biggest problem is he refuses to accept that you have to have height to win. We got our jocks handed to us all of last season because we had no height after Karena and R Davis. He had 3 open scholarships to use. He brought in 1 forward and 2 guards. He refuses to accept change. Hell, he is screwing us for the future even now. we graduate 4 players this year, 2 guards and 2 inside players. He signed 1 guard and 1 undersized forward in the early signing period. He is recruiting pgs and post players for our final 2 spots. If we sign 1 of each we will be in the exact same boat next year.
Donlon has been given every opportunity to change with the times. We have been more than patient with him expecting him to grow on the job. He refuses to. It's time for Wright State to move on without him and bring in a coach that gets it.

Opti, In general I agree with your points, as I was merely citing Donlan's need to go after quality big men rather than finding gold in want hasn't already been signed. I don't think we should always play zone, but switching from man defense to a variety of zones at times is a good option. On occasion I have seen us go to a zone, but it appears to be rare.
I definitely thought Donlon would play a full court pressing defense when the other team brought the ball up court. The first clue was his going to so many guards. But for some reason we rarely press any opponent.
As for injuries, we seem to have a lot of injuries that result in a lot of lost playing time over the season. Perhaps we recruit players that have a history of being injured. Maybe Donlon encourages a rough and tumble style of practices. I really don't know. I suspect it may be a combo of reasons for our debilitating injures.

Keith, watch out. I got berated for posting that fact. We have people if you don't agree with them resort to a personal attack because they can't dispute the facts.
