This is a pretty scary game for me. Part of me wants to think that this team is on an unbelievable roll right now. We've won 10 out of 11 games, so I feel like we've got a lot of momentum going into this game.
This road trip is scary to me for because I think this is the game we have to win. Detroit players and coaches hate our team for the comeback we put on them two weeks ago. Detroit is going to give us everything they've got on Sunday, and will be playing with some added vengeance on Sunday.
So what's up with Oakland? First off, they've played four 'power' teams. They barely lost to Georgia, lost in OT against MSU, beat Washington, and lost a tough game at Virginia. I say that's a pretty respectable slate of games. Definitely the best schedule put out there by a Horizon team this year.
The team can score, there's no doubt about it. They just blew Green Bay out of the Resch Center on Saturday by scoring 111 points. But before that they lost 3 out of 4 games at home against Youngstown State, Valpo, and NKU, three teams we beat at home by double digits.
I think this is going to come down to a couple of things. Slowing down the game, and stopping Kay Felder. The first one, pretty much nobody has figured out to do besides Tony Bennett's Virginia Cavaliers. Slow the game down. Oakland has only been held below 70 twice, and they lost both games. The key to that is Kay Felder, who's averaging 25 points a game, and is likely on his way to being the league POY. He's playing over 38 minutes per game, so he's going to get his shots. We're going to have to figure out how to stop him to win this game.
Slowing down the Griz will frustrate coach Kampe, and hopefully force him to play with his hand showing. If we've learned one thing the last few weeks, our team can score, but I don't think there's any possibility we put up 80-90-100 points to match Oakland if they have their way. I think if this game is played in the 60s or low 70s, I think we will win. But if Coach Kampe has his way, and Oakland gets rolling, especially if Felder is having a good game, Oakland has the potential to blow us out of the water. We really don't have the offense ability to hang with them. So it all comes down to defense. Just the way BD wants it.
Our two games at Oakland have been interesting games, so something to keep in mind. Last season we lost in OT. In the 2013 season, WSU completed a 10 point comeback with 2 minutes left, and A.J. Pacher scored the game winning jump hook with 1.2 seconds left to steal a victory.

Yeah, they have that little, but relatively new, arena that only holds 3k. It's a tough place to play and they've got a good team. I initially thought they were a one-man show with Felder (who is fantastic) but they have other good players. They don't play defense worth a lick, but they're athletic and can score with anyone. Gonna be tough to win in their building.

I figured we'd be underdogs. But we're even bigger dogs than I thought. -5.5 Oakland.

Oakland having their way with the ball.
Felder going off.
Refs are calling it tight.
Looks like this game is over already. BD must not have read my keys to the game.
Now we're backed into this corner in a must win game Sunday, or find ourselves two games out of first.

This game is over. Donlon must think this was the HL tourney championship game with how unprepared we were.

With 7 minutes to go down 20+. Put the bench in and rest the starters for Detroit.

Complete domination. My preview was spot on. We didn't slow the game down, and Oakland throttled us.
How did NKU beat this team?
See you guys Sunday

Oakland is shooting lights out. I got a feeling that Oakland could not throw one in the ocean when they lost.

I can't say I'm surprised by our guys losing this road game but I didn't think they would get blown out. They sure didn't play like a 1rst play team in the HL.

Welp, that was not fun. I didn't enjoy it.
Beat Detroit. Again.

We were due for a team to hit everything they threw up. Fielder is the real deal. Best offensive player in the Horizon presently. One thing I did not like was Oaklands gym floor. It was hideous.

COuldn't watch, was on the road, but sounds like the team ran into a buzzsaw. It happens. Detroit is falling apart, lost to NKU at home. That puts them at 8th place in the league. This may be their Alamo, or that could have already passed for them. Either way, team has to be more prepared to play than tonight. Maybe a wake-up was needed after the last month and half run.
