Interesting insight on those end of year discussions that all coaches have with returning players

Ran into a buddy the other day that I hadn't talked to in a couple of years, he is a season ticket holder. We were talking about how much we enjoy Nagy's style of play and that we were glad that Mitchell was getting a chance to show his skills. My friend said that when he talks WSU hoops at work everyone says that if Donlon was still here Mitchell would still be riding the bench and Alan Vest and Tye Wilburn would be averaging 30 minutes a game each. An exaggeration sure, but after looking at the stats, Mitchell has increased his minutes played per game from 13 minutes to 31 minutes this year. You guys must not have watched WSU basketball the last 5 years then. Donlon loved Mitchell because of the tough defense he played. He would have been starting this year no matter who our coach was. Mitchell's minutes were low last year because he was injured most of the season.

Mitchell would not be 2nd place in the league in rebounding and would not have the points per game under Donlon. Mitchell can't shoot the 3 point shot well enough to score in his system. Mitchell is thriving in this kind of play on the court. I believe under Donlon, he was in control of what was happening on the court much more than Nagy.
Nagy lets them play with more freedom on the court to have some fun. Could you see the look on Donlon's face when Alstork and Davis blow an alley oop slam dunk. He would go ballistic.

That wasn't what anyone was arguing. The statement made was that Mitchell wouldn't be starting this year if Donlon was still here. That was just plain wrong because Donlon loved the way he played defense and wanted to play him more last year but he was fighting an ankle injury most of the season. Everyone is playing better this year under Nagy. That was never up for debate.

Just my 2 cents worth. I was possibly more disappointed with BD than most people. Let's just move on and not post anything about what he might have done. I am enthused about Coach Nagy. Things are going well and the people on this board need to be positive or disagree with what Coach Nagy is doing if you want. Go Raiders
