Why was Mitchell on the bench most of the 2nd half? Was he injured? That was my question too. Although Wilburn played well. When Miami was cutting into our lead it was their tall guard taking Wilburn into the paint and scoring easy 2s over him that worked for them. I was wondering where Mitchell and his defense was at that point. I would think he was hurt or coach wanted the point guard over the defense, maybe he felt we needed to cut down on turnovers in the 2nd half.

Why was Mitchell on the bench most of the 2nd half? Was he injured? Coach Nagy said it was his chose NOT to play Justin. I assumed Justin did or said something to get benched.

Justin only scored four points and he doesn't seem like the type to got hot headed and say something dumb. I think coach played Tye because he thought Justin was having a bad night. Jaylon couldn't play tonight and they didn't really have anyone else except Tye. He did a really great job for the situation. Kid hustles.

Think what you want. I listened to 106.5 for the postgame and coach speak definitely sounded like Justin was benched. Not necessarily because of lip, could have been effort or results. I was out at the Nutter Center to watch the ladies so, I can't guess on what could have been the problem. ( Might have made the difference so, hope it has been settled on the way home ).

I think the best of us are capable of saying something...can't speculate on the reason for Justin getting benched. Bottom line, I don't think we disagree with the fact that Justin got benched and doesn't appear to do with injury or illness ( based on Coach Nagy's wording ).

Its going to be hard to win games, at home, on the road or on the moon if you shoot 60% from the FT line, and 20% from 3. I thought the guys played hard, and there were some positive individual performances (Love, Wilburn, Hughes, Winchester). Where I have an issue is the lack of discipline on the defensive end and the PG situation. You cannot tell me that we have a terrible defensive team. Under the previous regime, if you couldnt guard you couldnt play and usually wouldnt get recruited. Now with mostly non Nagy recruits, the defense is awful (especially on the perimeter). Another thing that bothers me is how often Nagy continues to complain about the PG position. Everett Winchester was a HS PG and was recruited here to play PG. Justin Mitchell is more than capable of playing PG at this level (having played some in HS), and doing it at an all league level in my opinion. Mark Hughes can play PG at this level (again, having played some in HS) and Tye Wilburn (who had a nice night against Miami) is a true PG. Nagy is putting a ton of pressure on Cole when he becomes eligble because for the last 13 months all we hear from Nagy is how we lose because we dont have a true PG.
Individual Grades Hughes A+ Love A- Winchester A- Benzinger B Parker C Mitchell D Wilburn A- Vest C Coaching C

It's hard to win when your best player is sitting on the bench down the stretch of a tight game. It appears to me that Nagy was willing to lose a non-conference game in an effort to send Mitchell and the rest of the team a message. " Do it my way or hit the highway(or more appropriately hit the pine bench).

One of his brothers played PG and the other played SG on his HS team. He played some PG on his AAU team for 3 weeks before his senior year. So far this year he has more TOs than assists. He isn't running the offense. He is trying to go one on one and score most of the time he has the ball. It's the same BS Mark Alstork did most of last year.
