I don't think he was implying that there is a WSU connection. The kid is now available and he is someone worth looking at.

oh ok. i thought he was going the same mindframe as Detroit fans and their hopelessly naive perspective on recruiting. thankfully he's not.

Johnson to leave LouisvillePosted: Tuesday August 1, 2006 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Sophomore forward Brian Johnson is leaving the Louisville basketball team, coach Rick Pitino said Tuesday. Johnson averaged 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 30 games for the Cardinals in 2005-06 after sitting out the 2004-05 season due to knee injuries. "He's endured three knee surgeries and has had a difficult time," Pitino said. "He's an outstanding man and we wish him nothing but the best." Johnson, who has not said where he intends to transfer, is the second Louisville player to ask for his release in the last six weeks. Freshman forward Chad Millard was granted a release from the Cardinals on June 28. The Cardinals went 21-13 during the 2005-06 season, losing to South Carolina in the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/basketball/ncaa/08/01/bc.bkc.louisville.johnson.ap/index.html

Maric says he's leaving NUBy CURT McKEEVER/Lee Enterprises LINCOLN - On Monday, Aleks Maric said he's so disturbed by the departure of Nebraska men's basketball coach Barry Collier that he, too, has decided to leave the Huskers. That announcement certainly won't put a smile on the face of Doc Sadler, who today will be announced as NU's next coach. The 6-foot-11, 265-pound Maric - a 2006 honorable-mention All-Big 12 Conference honoree after averaging 10.9 points and 8.1 rebounds as a sophomore - was the only center on Nebraska's roster and the anchor for next year's team. Maric, in Australia preparing to play for his country's Senior National team at the World Championships, said he's -50” on either transferring to another university or starting a professional career in Europe. Maric had declared early for the NBA draft shortly after the person who recruited him to Nebraska, associate head coach Scott Spinelli, left to take an assistant's position at Wichita State. Maric later pulled out and indicated he would return to the Huskers following his commitment with the Australian team. That thinking changed shortly after Collier was introduced as the athletic director at Butler University last Tuesday. “Had Coach Collier been there, that's where I want to be,” Maric said of Nebraska. “That's not how it is now. When Scott left, that was tough for me, but I'm a loyal guy.” Maric said he spoke to Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson and basketball AD Marc Boehm last week requesting to be released from his scholarship. Since then, he hasn't heard from either. Neither Pederson nor Boehm could be reached Monday night for comment. “There might be a problem, but they just have to be professional about it,” Maric said. “They said ‘Don't make a quick decision,' but it wasn't. It's well thought out. “I'd like the athletic department to cooperate. I had two great years there.” Maric played down the possibility that he could reunite with Spinelli at Wichita State. “To tell you the truth, the last time I spoke to Scott was before I left for Australia,” he said. “I don't really see myself in the Missouri Valley Conference.” Maric admitted the news about Collier leaving came as “a little bit” of a shock. At the same time, he understood why Collier could want to return to his alma mater. “You can't please everyone,” he said. No doubt, the latest news about Maric won't make Husker fans happy. “I'd love to be back at Nebraska,” he said, “but that's not the right environment for me.” With Maric leaving, NU is down to 10 scholarship players for next year's team. www.columbustelegram.com/articles/2006/08/08/sports/sports2maric.txt

New Nebraska coach Doc Sadler visited both players at home to persuade the top two scorers from last year's team to return. Sadler told the Omaha World-Herald Tuesday that White plans to be back in Lincoln Saturday. Sadler talked with White and his mother in Brooklyn, N.Y. White scored 8.7 points a game last season for Nebraska. Maric, who was the team's top scorer with 10.9 points a game, agreed to come back after Sadler visited him in Australia. Their returns would leave Nebraska's scholarship count at 11, two under the limit. www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9604491

Johnson, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound rising junior, will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after redshirting this season. Johnson, out of Oak Hill Academy (Va.), was a highly touted arrival at Louisville but injuries marred his career with the Cardinals. He missed the 2004-05 season with a knee injury. He averaged just 10 minutes a game last season, averaging 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds. The Bulldogs are hoping that Johnson can follow in the footsteps of their recent power forwards -- Erick Dampier, Tyrone Washington, Mario Austin and Lawrence Roberts, who all ended up being drafted. The current power forward, Charles Rhodes, is in line to follow that same path. Johnson would be eligible to practice with the Bulldogs beginning Friday night as the team prepares for a Labor Day trip to Vancouver. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2553692

I saw this article over on Valpo's board. August 21, 2006 Nkem Ojougboh Gets Release from University of Texas-San Antonio. By Hoopmasters Staff Nkem Ojougboh, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound sophomore forward, has obtained his release from University of Texas-San Antonio. Nkem Ojougboh, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound sophomore forward, has obtained his release from UTSA this past week, according to our good friend Anthony Ray of Arizona Preps.com. The Scottsdale Christian Academy 2005 graduate Nkem Ojougboh had a strong freshman season at the University of Texas-San Antonio. He averaged seven points and 4 rebounds per/game as a freshman starter under former UTSA Head Coach Tim Carter. Ojougboh also shot an impressive 48% from the field for the Roadrunners. While Carter's position at UTSA as the Head Coach was terminated by the school in the spring, the school hired former Arizona State assistant coach Brooks Thompson to take over the program in June. "I want to make sure I go to a school that has a good academic program," said Ojougboh. "Academics is the most important thing to me and my family." Ojougboh said that he has received interest as of late from Boise State, Wyoming, Washington State, Fresno State and Cal-State Bakersfield for his services. Ojougboh told us that he understands that very few schools will have a scholarship for a division-I transfer this late in the summer, but that he is confident in finding a good school for his future. Ojougboh said that he plans to take official recruiting visits to Cal-State Bakersfield and also Wyoming within the next week. Neither of the other schools that have shown interest in him have a scholarship available. Former Scottsdale Christian HS standout performer Tim Maiden, a teammate of Ojougboh's at UTSA, will remain at the school. Ojougboh was a four-year letterman at Scottsdale Christian Academy and helped lead the school to state championship titles in 2004 and 2005. SCA finished a combined 64-3 over his last two seasons of high school basketball. Ojougboh was named to the All-Arizona first team and was a McDonald's All-American nominee as a senior. He averaged 12.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a senior and was MVP of the Arizona High School All-Star Game. Ojougboh finished with a 3.4 GPA at UTSA in his first year, and has already completed more than 50 credit hours of college classes. valpofans.proboards28.com/index.cgi?board=valposports&action=display&thread=1156130413
