It would be less concerning if we only had a couple spots to fill. 5 open scholarships at end of April isn't ideal though.

A pg to keep an eye on is Chase Forte. He is being followed by 1/2 our coaching staff now (Bere, Trice, and Goff). I've always liked taller PGs to sneak some extra rebounding and defensive ability to switch in your lineup. Seems like he'd be a decent addition if it comes through - they are D1 at least.

Well that certainly won't hurt recruiting kids from Alter (or ones currently in the portal from there)

Happy WSU is keeping the other two recruits but was hoping Jaheem was going to be a Raider. Maybe he will join WSU after his redshirt season at SIU. Lol great comment +1 I laughed SIU is going to struggle to fill out a roster though so he may actually get to play against Nagy's wishes. Not sure they can get enough portal guys in to field the 7 man rotation he'll use.

Jaheim just recommitted from Wright State, following Nagy to SIU Damn. Thought Bere staying on would help us hold onto him since he was the lead recruiter there. Pull to stay closer to home must have been stronger.

Do we even have an opening for another full time assistant coach or just a player development position? Feels like maybe we should be tempering our expectations for how big of an impact the remaining staff position is going to be.

I wonder if Sargent got a larger pool of money to allocate to assistant salaries that helped with retention and recruiting Gentry to join since I have to assume Sargent is making less than Nagy was scheduled to make this year. Either way, a good use of resources if so.

Missouri and UC standing out as the two most likely landing spots for Warrick according to reports.

Not exactly what you're asking but your comment about local guys is a tangent I've been on with my buddies. We really need to use the portal to land local kids. We should be recruiting and building relationships with all the top talent coming out of the Dayton region - even (especially) kids that are likely going to land at a level higher than the HL. Let them play a couple seasons in a higher level program if we miss out on them but you've built that foundation on those relationships and should be an easy sell if they want to come back closer to home in a few years.
House and Conner are two good current examples - Alstork before them. My main point being, rather than reaching for a local player like we may have done with Anderson last year, we should be recruiting the top talent in the region and playing the long game with them.

^ good find. I've got an hour drive ahead of me this evening and have that queued up now to listen. Thanks for posting. Listened to it. It was kind of same stuff from press conference. Nothing too concrete. Did not say much about staff or anything different on coaching style. Hopefully he can pluck a few local kids in portal to fill up the roster spots. He was asked if people would notice a change in style between him and Nagy and he said "I'm sure they will" but did mention that he really liked the freedom Coach Nagy gave players. I thought it was interesting that he mentioned two separate times that fundamentally he and coach Nagy have very different personalities. I had to go back to listen to get the quote right (and I don't want to read too much into it) but found it interesting that he framed this comment that he "hoped" people would notice that difference. "coach and I are just different personalities and I hope that shows up for me and our program in a variety of ways".

Can't verify numbers but interesting to hear YSU leads HL in NIL funding.
