Anyone notice that the majority of people bitching about the home schedule are people that don't even attend home games. Why do you think that they're not attending? Might it be because of the home schedule? I enjoy D-1 men's basketball, but I'd rather spend $10 to see a good movie than watch Wright State beat the crap out of Urbana and Ohio Dominican. Sorry, but it's not worth the time, effort, and expense to attend those games. Scheduling such crappy games is one of the reasons that I dropped my season tickets a couple of years ago. Now that I am no longer a season ticket holder, I don't feel compelled to attend or pay for such meaningless contests between the varsity and the JVs. My statement wasn't just about those 2 games. The majority of people that are bitching about the schedule are people that don't attend ANY home games. That is sad too because we have 13 home games this year and 11 of them are games against HL teams and 3 good mid-majors: Miami, George Mason, and Belmont. I don't care if people don't want to attend the 2 D2 games, but anyone complaining about the rest of the schedule is just bitching for the sake of bitching.

I don't understand people like RaiderNutt and Raider Country. Why are they content with mediocrity? Also, why are so many taking personal jabs at Keith from Xenia just because he has a different view point? Keith is a realist. He knows this program can't get better until it plays and beats better competition year in and year out. Xavier and Butler took risks with their programs, they beat good competition, and put their basketball programs on the map. WSU continues to play it safe with this years weak schedule. Read our posts again. Who said they were content with the schedule? You are putting words in our mouths. The people arguing with you and Keith are people that say they are attending games no matter who we play because we follow Wright State. It doesn't mean we are happy with the schedule. It means we choose to support the team because we know that the players have no say in who they are playing. If you read my post again I also said that having opposing opinions is good for the board. Keith used to offer that. Now all he does is bitch about everything for the sake of bitching. He cannot even acknowledge that we do have some good games on the schedule. We didn't have a home OOC game worth seeing last year. This year we have Miami, George Mason, and Belmont. There is nothing wrong with wanting more for our program, but you should also acknowledge the good in the program too. Keith hasn't had anything good to say about this program at all this entire year. That's BS. We may not be Butler, but if you only read Keith's posts you would think we were YSU.

So let me make sure I get your point, country. Those fans most dissatisfied with our crappy scheduling are the fans most likely to not pay their hard earned dollars to watch crappy teams come to the nutter. Country, you may have stumbled upon a really radical, and heretofore undiscovered, theory. Just brilliant. And butt, you and the 2500 or so others enjoy watching a div I team beat up on a couple of div ii teams. Hopefully those won't be the highlights of the season. Me and the 4117 other fans that attended games last year will be back and enjoying watching Wright State play ball this year. If you don't like the schedule then don't attend the games. No one is forcing you to come to the Nutter Center and honestly no one cares if you are there or not Keith. The same goes for this site. No one cares if you post here or not. Having opposing opinions is good for discussions, but you don't bring anything to any conversation anymore. All you want to do is complain about everything and I am not exaggerating. If you click on your own username and then click on recent posts, you have not made a single post in 2014 that could be interpreted as being positive. You have turned into a grumpy old man who acts pissed off at life. If following Wright State brings you so little joy in life, why in the heck do you continue to follow them?

The nonconference schedule includes eight road games and four home contests Since we know about Belmont, George Mason, & Miami I guess it is safe to assume the 4th home OOC game is a non-D1 team since Wright State has not announced it yet.

Where is the "30 wins a year" quote coming from? Did he specifically say a D-1 30-win program? I reeeeaaaally hope I don't pick up the schedule and see Emory staring back at me. Having said that, Michigan State has two players from the Dayton area on the roster and we all know Izzo's scheduling policy. I'd put my chips there. The 30 win a year quote came from an interview Donlon did in the DDN. It was posted in the basketball news thread. Here is a link to the article. www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/sports/college/qa-with-wright-state-basketball-coach-billy-donlon/ngTst/?icmp=daytondaily_internallink_textlink_apr2013_daytondailystubtomydaytondaily_launch#1f8aa4e8.3458922.735422Based on the WSU press release, my guess is that the schedule is done but they don't want to announce the last game or 2 is against non-D1 teams. The purpose of the release is to drum up season ticket sales. We announced the games against Belmont, George Mason and Miami in the release. If we had any other games lined up worth a crap on the home schedule we would have announced them in the release to drum up better sales. I doubt we are playing Mich St Gerb. If we had a new series signed with them it would have made the release. The 30 win team is most likely a buy game on the road like the OSU game. I hate that Wright State tries to deceive it's fan base every year and waits to announce the shitty games on the schedule AFTER season ticket renewals are due. It's one of the main reason so many loyal fans have stopped renewing their tickets over the years. www.wsuraiders.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=27000&ATCLID=209541964

Courtney is the type of student athlete you love to root for. I have spoken to her briefly a few times over the last few years. She is a class act young lady and the type of person I want representing my alma mater. I hope she is able to finish her career this year on a high note.

Your argument doesn't really make much sense. All of the conferences you listed took in associate members because it helped their situation. It either gave them enough members to get/keep an automatic birth to the NCAA tournament in a sport or it strengthened that sport by adding a good team/teams.
Why would the HL add Belmont as an associate member for soccer if it was truly only an agreement for soccer and a handful of games in other sports for the first four years they were members? If you look at the HL's history, we don't take in affiliate members. This is the first in 30 years we have done this. The HL already has 8 men's soccer teams with no need to add a ninth. Belmont doesn't have a good soccer team. They were 6-10-2 last season. Belmont isn't exactly a great geographical fit for the conference, so why would all of our schools be willing to add the extra travel for soccer just to add a bad team that we don't need and won't elevate the status of our soccer programs?
My take is that Belmont is interested in the HL but does not want to become the 10th member. I believe they want to join the conference but will only come aboard when we have two additional new members coming from south of the HL's current geographic footprint (NKU, Murray State, Evansville, Lipscomb, etc). I also think they want to see how stable the HL is over the next few years. I agree with Big D. I think losing Loyola and having UIC and Valpo also trying to get out of the HL last year kept them from joining last year. If the HL doesn't lose any members, can keep our low conference RPI (10-14 ranking), and can line up 2 other members, I think Belmont is in.

Even the MAC is rated above us this year. Let's go this direction, if we got picked up by a lower ranked conference they possibly could move up just by having WSU come aboard. I'm all for getting into the NCAA Big Dance but if that is all we are wanting from basketball aren't there easier paths to go. Drop down a few conferences and dominate instead of beating the team ragged and getting a 16 seed anyways by winning a conference tourney. If we are just a single bid conference why stay? Would recruiting take a hit? No TV games? Possibly. ecb123 already pointed out that if WSU would have taken care of business vs. the teams we should have beaten than we would have finished the year ranked in the top 100. We wouldn't have been a 16 seed in the NCAAs if we would have gotten the automatic bid. We would have been a 13 seed with that RPI and record. We need to improve our nonconference schedule so that we don't need to worry about the auto bid and give ourselves a shot at an at large bid. We need to take the next step up, not think about going down a level.

I think this poll is going to be skewed due to all of the season ticket holders we have on the board. I don't think any of us like the D2/D3 games but at the same time I don't think any of us are going to throw away tickets we paid for to boycott those games.

Our president hired Grant for all of the wrong reasons. He was picked because of his prior tenure at WSU and they thought his love of WSU would lead him to become a great AD. I like the idea of hiring a guy passionate about WSU, but you have to hire the best qualified guy first. We need an AD that is good at fundraising and can make the correct hires for coaching positions. I think 3 out of the last 4 coaching hires by Grant were previously assistant coaches here that he just promoted. Our swimming/diving coach was an assistant, our new baseball coach was an assistant, and Donlon was an assistant. His only outside hire that I can think of is our volleyball coach who isn't exactly knocking the doors down with her success. We need someone to right this ship before he completely runs down the athletic department. #UhYeah

With Valpo's height advantage I doubt we take the ball inside at all. We are going to live or die by the 3 again in this game.

I think Donlon's biggest problem is that his roster and his style of play do not mesh offensively. If you are going to run a 3 or 4 guard offense you either have to run and gun and try to increase the tempo so that you get more shot opportunities than your opponent or you slow it down and have lights out shooters. Either way can be successful. Donlon obviously wants to slow things down, but we do not have good outside shooters to work in this system. Reggie is our only guard shooting at a high percentage from 3 this year and he has been very streaky. The rest of our guards are shooting less than 35% from 3. Things should be drastically better next year with the addition of Evans, Benzinger, and Thomasson who all shoot 45% or better from 3. That being said, Donlon needs to change things up if he want to be successful this season. It's idiotic to do the same thing unsuccessfully over and over again expecting different results. If Donlon wants to be a successful coach long term, he is going to need to learn to adapt more. You cannot piss away a whole season because your team isn't capable of playing ball the way you want them to. Figure out what they do well and utilize their strengths while trying to minimize their weakness. Good post. I don't think there is any doubt that teams can win using Donlon's system or using an up tempo system if you have the right personnel. I don't think we have the roster to win with Donlon's system this year when he gives everyone the green light to shoot from outside. We have way too many guys that have no business shooting 3s that are shooting 3s. I think we could be more successful this year if Donlon just gave some of these guys the red light from 3 and we were forced to try to take the ball inside more.
