It sucks that we missed out on both Sirutis and Grote. We could have used another forward that can shoot the three.

Courtney Horton Signs With Loyola Men's Basketball Former Washington High School guard starred at Southeastern Community College April 27, 2006 CHICAGO - Courtney Horton, a Chicago native and 2004 graduate of Washington High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Loyola University Chicago, head coach Jim Whitesell announced today. The 6-foot-2 combo guard spent the last two seasons at Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa. "We think Courtney can step in and contribute right away," Whitesell said. "He comes from and excellent junior college program that traditionally is a national power. We are thrilled to be bringing a Chicago product back home and this is proof of our commitment to recruit the Chicago area. Courtney will fit in nicely as both a basketball player and as a student. We are excited to add him to the program." Last season at Southeastern, Horton averaged 13.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while connecting on 46 percent of his shots from the field, to rank second on the team in both scoring and rebounding. A second team all-region pick, he had some of his best games against top competition a year ago, tallying 30 points and 12 rebounds against Highland Community College, which finished the year ranked No. 3 in the nation. In a game against then-second-ranked Chipola Junior College, Horton sprung for 25 points and seven boards. Horton also was the recipient of the Winegard Scholarship and the Loren Walker Award at Southeastern. For his two-year career at Southeastern, Horton contributed 11.1 ppg and 4.0 rpg. During his senior season at Washington High School, Horton averaged 18.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. loyolaramblers.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/042706aaa.html

UNCW recruit to visit Wright State UNCW recruit Vaughn Duggins will make an official visit to Wright State University on Tuesday. Duggins gave a verbal commitment to UNCW back in early August and averaged just under 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. The 6'3" guard landed on the All-Conference tam for the third straight season. Duggins could be the second recruit the Seahawks have lost since the departure of the coaching staff. Paul Guede decided against UNCW instead signing with Valparaiso. The forward averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game this season leading his team to a 31-7 record and second straight title in the North Carolina Christian Schools Athletic Association. Guard Charles Baker's status is unknown. wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=4781463&nav=menu157_4

Vaughn Duggins, one of two high school seniors signed to play for UNCW next season, is expected to ask for a release from the national letter of intent he signed, according to his coach. UNCW sports information director Joe Browning said Wednesday afternoon that the school had not received a written request from Duggins. Pendleton Heights (Ind.) High coach Joe Buck said Duggins was disappointed when he learned Brad Brownell would resign as UNCW coach. “It was very devastating to him; he was almost in a state of shock,” Buck said. “When you’re recruited like that, you really get attached to the head coach and assistants. They made him feel welcome.” Buck said Duggins, a 6-4 guard who finished second in the Indiana prep scoring race (26.9 ppg), would re-open the recruiting process. Duggins chose UNCW over Butler and Wright State. He also visited Miami of Ohio, Ohio University, Western Michigan, Eastern Illinois and Ball State. Buck thinks Duggins would consider following Brownell to Wright State. “He’s not back at square one, but we expect to hear from some of the other schools that were interested in him,” Buck said. The Seahawks’ other signee is Charles Baker, a 6-3 guard from Word of God Christian School in Raleigh. Unknown is the future of recruits Vaughn Duggins and Charles Baker. Capaccio said he had not spoken with either player, but Duggins sounded like he might not make it to UNCW. Duggins, who had just returned home to Indiana after spending spring break in Clearwater, Fla., said the coaching staff outweighed location when he decided to attend UNCW. “I was going to spend more of my time in the gym than at the beach,” Duggins said in a phone interview. “I’m going to keep my options open and go from there. I would definitely think about going with them (to Wright State).”Duggins finished second in the Indiana state scoring race with an average of 26.7 points per game. wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060402/NEWS/60401027/1005/sports01

Duggins would be a great addition to Wright State if he gets out of his LOI.
