Reasons this is a good hire: 1. He knows our system. 2. He played for Brownell and understands what he expects from his players. 3. He has played college and pro ball, so he will bring the work ethic of a professional. 4. He is a young coach with AAU coaching experience. This should help with recruiting. 5. He is 6-8 and was a forward in Brownell's system. All of our other coaches are former guards. It should help our post players to have a coach that actually has some experience in the post.

Brownell Tabs Former UNCW Player as New Assistant Victor Ebong joins Raider staff May 1, 2007 Wright State University head basketball coach Brad Brownell dipped into his past to select a new assistant coach as former UNC-Wilmington player Victor Ebong will join the Raider staff. Ebong, a forward for the Seahawks while Brownell was an assistant coach, graduated from UNCW in 2000. The Omaha, Nebraska native played professionally in Sweeden after college before returning to North Carolina where he has been involved in several sales and coaching positions, including AAU teams and several national camps. "Vic has always impressed me with his basketball knowledge and passion for the game," Brownell said. "Having played at UNCW, he clearly understands the system and will be a tremendous asset to our players." Additionally, Ebong acted as color commentator for the Seahawks' television games on Comcast/Fox Sportsnet. On UNCW's first NCAA Tournament team in 2000, he was team captain and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's All-Defensive Team. He replaces Adrian Townsend who left the Raiders to pursue other opportunities. In Brownell's first season at Wright State, the Raiders finished 23-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. wsuraiders.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/050107aab.html

Athleticism key in Pistons' draftJune 23, 2007 BY KRISTA JAHNKE FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER The Pistons released a list of 24 players Friday they have brought in for private workouts leading into the NBA draft. The team has two first-round picks -- No. 15 and No. 27 -- as well as one second-rounder. Point guard Javaris Crittenton, shooting guard Nick Young, combo guard Rodney Stuckey and small forward Thaddeus Young are four players on the list who are potential picks at No. 15. Nick Young, from USC, is an athletic guard widely considered one of the best shooting guards in the draft. Stuckey played in the Big Sky Conference at Eastern Washington but is considered a lock to go in the mid-first round. Crittenton, from Georgia Tech, is one of the top three point guards in the draft. His college teammate, Thaddeus Young, is an athletic forward who, at age 19, still has potential for growth. Alphabetically, the other players to work out for the Pistons included F Mohammed Abukar (San Diego State), G Morris Almond (Rice), C Stanko Barac (Bosnia), G Marco Belinelli (Italy), G Bobby Brown (Cal State Fullerton), G/F Derrick Byars (Vanderbilt), G Zabian Dowdell (Virginia Tech), F/C DeVon Hardin (California), G Brandon Heath (San Diego State), G/F Quinton Hosley (Fresno State), G Trey Johnson (Jackson State), G Jared Jordan (Marist), G Sammy Mejia (DePaul), G Gabe Pruitt (Southern California), G Ramon Sessions (Nevada), F Ali Traore (France), C Darryl Watkins (Syracuse), F Marcus Williams (Arizona), G Dashaun Wood (Wright State) and F Artem Zabelin (Russia). www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070623/SPORTS03/706230357

Wood busy at NBA pre-draft gamesBy Mark Gokavi Staff Writer Friday, June 01, 2007 LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — No, DaShaun Wood hasn't gone to the Epcot Center. Or Universal Studios. Or SeaWorld. "We're not here for off time," the Wright State point guard said after Thursday's NBA pre-draft games at the Milk House. "They've got us going and working hard and there's a lot of guys coming here to see these players." Wood played well for a second straight day, scoring 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting. He added four rebounds, three assists with zero turnovers. Wood earned postgame face time on ESPNU. "At my size, guys got to play with a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm," said Wood, generously listed at 5-foot-11. "I'm trying to bring that to the table first. And second, I'm trying show that I know the game and can make smart plays as well." Wood said his agent, Bill Strickland, has heard from more teams asking about private workouts. The day's last game, which Wood's team lost, 89-87, was a Horizon League showcase. Detroit's Ryvon Covile had nine points and four boards while Loyola's Blake Schilb had eight and three. "It just shows the competitive level of basketball in this era is growing," Wood said. "You can find talent all over the world, any conference, and there's a lot of guys (at least 20) from mid-majors. We're just trying to show that we can play upper-echelon level of competition." Ohio State freshman Daequan Cook improved from Wednesday's game. Cook made 4-of-9 shots for eight points with two assists and no turnovers. OSU senior Ron Lewis scored nine, but was just 3-of-14 from the field. Lewis has been impressed by Wood this week: "I think he's a great player. He's small, but when I saw him play, he was a terrific talent. He got to where he wanted to; knocked down open shots. He's a tough kid." Today's schedule 9:15 a.m: Team 3 game involving players with regional ties — Ohio State's Daequan Cook and Ron Lewis, Wright State's DaShaun Wood and Marquette's Dominic James (Richmond, Ind.) 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m.: Games Ongoing: Physicals all day www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wsu/2007/06/01/ddn060107nbacamp.html

Orlando Pre-Draft Camp: Day ThreeJune 1, 2007 After previously having played quite a solid camp up until this point, today Dashaun Wood had a slightly worse showing than some might have expected considering the momentum he had coming in. Although he scored 15 points and did not turn the ball over even once, Wood certainly over-dribbled excessively numerous times down the floor, looking for his own shot a lot more than he probably should have considering his role on the floor. This aggressiveness did get him into the paint repeatedly this game, showing a great handle creating his own shot and going to his floater again and again. He took four NBA 3-pointers in this game, but only hit one of them, an area he’ll probably have to show more of once private NBA workouts kick off next week. Some good things he did do included the leadership skills he displayed calling together his teammates for a huddle in dead-ball situations, as well as dong a good job pulling up off the dribble from mid-range. A lot of players would gladly accept a 15 point performance as their worst showing so far, but we know that Wood is capable of doing a lot more based off what we’ve seen in the past www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=1270

Lewis up, Cook down during NBA draft campBy Mark Gokavi Staff Writer Thursday, May 31, 2007 LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Ron Lewis knows the basketball world remembers his signature 3-pointer against Xavier in the NCAA tournament. But the Ohio State graduate wants NBA talent evaluators to notice something else, too. "I'm just trying to prove that I can play at both ends of the floor — defensively and offensively," Lewis said Wednesday at the Milk House Gym during the NBA predraft camp. "Just try to do things to the best of my ability so I can get drafted." Lewis' Team 3 lost Wednesday, 78-67 to Team 4. But the 6-foot-4 guard hit both of his NBA-length 3-pointers, made 4-of-9 field goals and scored 12 points. "Once I got into the flow of the game, I started hitting shots," Lewis said. "Everything kept kicking, kept flowing with me." A critic said OSU freshman Daequan Cook missed some shots, didn't handle the ball well and had a couple defensive lapses. That critic was Cook himself. "I didn't do too good," he said. "I missed a few shots that I'm used to making. That's just getting into the flow of the game. You just bounce back from that the next day." Cook was 3-of-10 from the field for six points, missed both free throws and was credited with four rebounds and eight assists — a slightly harsh number since some passes were mishandled. Lewis and Cook's point guards — Marquette's Dominic James and Wright State's DaShaun Wood, had different experiences running their five-minute, full-substitution intervals.
While James was 0-for-3 with no points and no assists, Wood shot 3-of-7 (just missing a couple tough layups) for six points, had five rebounds and two assists.
Wood said he's "100 percent" confident he belongs on the court with these players: "I thought I defended pretty well, made smart plays, got into the lane a lot."NBA pre-draft camp Where: The Milk House Gym at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex Today's schedule 9 a.m.: Drills 11 a.m.: Game 5 p.m.: Game 6:30 p.m.: Team 3 game involving players with regional ties — Ohio State's Daequan Cook and Ron Lewis, Wright State's DaShaun Wood Marquett's Dominic James (Richmond, Ind.) Orlando Pre-Draft Camp: Day TwoMay 30, 2007 Everybody’s favorite player at Portsmouth, Wood has continued his outstanding play in Orlando. With his teammate James appearing tenative with the other rotation, it was impossible not to notice the way Wood changed the game by pushing the tempo and getting everybody involved. Wood didn’t score a ton of points in this one, but put on a clinic in how to make every decision you make a positive one. He never once let off the throttle when he was in the game. Despite the lack of size, Wood picked his spots well and found ways to get to the basket. He missed a couple of full-speed drives by the slightest of margins, or else his point total would look a bit better as well. He barely even looked to show off his outside shooting stroke, which had been deadly in the drills. Wood did a great job of playing under control at such high speeds, and has to have moved up the list for any team looking to draft a backup point guard in round two. www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=1270
