If Blake’s article is accurate this is one of the dumbest decisions ever. If you are going to hire Clint, then hire him. You can’t give him a one year interm contract. He won’t be able to put together a staff or roster on a one year deal. He would basically be a dead man walking. I hope it is inaccurate. Look at Charlotte this season. Ron Sanchez left last spring, they elevated Aaron Fearne to interim coach for a year, finished third in their first season in the AAC and ripped the interim tag off Fearne in February. It's been done many times before. You're also running into a massive issue in your AD search if you hire a permanent head coach first. Whatever pool of candidates you have gets smaller when the AD can't pick their own head coach. And the candidates who drop off will be the best candidates. Everyone wants to hire their own guy. Next season isn't lost but it's better to sacrifice one season by giving Sargent time to "prove it." You've gotta get the AD hire done right first.

Honestly shocked another program would want to hire Nagy at this point. The team has struggled most years under him without Loudon Love. This will sting for the short term but I think will be good for the program long term. I don’t think Nagy adjusted well enough to the portal era. Get ready for a team of transfers in next year. The perception of Scott Nagy's program is a lot more pessimistic inside the fan base than it is outside of it. We all think WSU is dangerous every single year. I think it's one of the best two jobs in the conference and I think most would agree. He's literally 167-91 at Wright State. Jim Larranaga won very little at Bowling Green in 11 seasons, had three NIT one-and-dones and then left for George Mason, where he won a couple titles and went to a couple NCAA Tournaments in his first eight seasons but didn't win a game. Then in 2006 he took them to the Final Four. In 18 years at Davidson, Bob McKillop had taken them to a few NCAA Tournaments and then in 2008 they went to the Elite Eight. Yeah, yeah, Steph Curry, yeah but McKillop recruited him. And these without mentioning that it took 40 years for Greg Kampe to break through and win that first NCAA Tournament game. Oakland didn't even go dancing in the HL until this season. What is that, 10-11 years? I think the expectations at our mid-major level are often blown out of proportion because we measure coaches by their NCAA Tournament appearances and conference titles, and if they don't get there they're seen as failures. You've got three regular season titles and two NCAA tournaments/HLT titles in eight years. I think that's an excellent rate of return. You finished two games back of the conference champion this season. Think of all the close calls over the year. You know how hard it is to beat a team three times in one season? Well, WSU almost did that against NKU. The margins at our level are razor-thin. I wouldn't judge Nagy too harshly.

So with IUPUI becoming IU-Indianapolis, we're going to have to say goodbye to the "Ooey-Pooey" nickname. IUI...EEWEE? Eye-Why?

I've seen my guys play. I'm not worried. Let's play some basketball. How good is the Horizon League this year? Best in what...11-12 years?

Cool that Davis reunites with Linc Darner. I've always wondered why Darner got canned at Green Bay. The people who know don't seem to be willing to say, which I understand.

What an embarrassing game. Not sure who to root for the rest of the conference tournament, definitely isn’t Milwaukee. Hey, if we win the whole tournament you can say you were the best team to lose in the quarterfinals. I used to say this to myself when we'd lose...well I say this to myself when we lose. Kudos to them for manufacturing a crowd like this. They are loud and milwaukee is feeding off it and we’re wilting. We needed to have a hot start to take them out of it. We really haven’t seen anything like this all year Why don't they always play there? The Klotsche Center was built in the early 70's as an intramural facility. It's a glorified high school gym. Do we need a smaller building? Sure. But next year we'll be averaging roughly double what the Klotsche holds.

I don't know how the conference can force any of us to do it. The A-10 has a scheduling guideline that forces their member schools to have a specific OOC NET average. If member school miss that number in any 2 out of 3 seasons then the conference takes their share of NCAA tournament money and TV contract money until they get back into compliance. The HL could very easily do the same or make a member school ineligible for the conference post season tournament. Those are 2 very easy punishments that they can enforce. The A-10 has done that to force the conference to get better. The quote makes it sound like they're forcing buy games specifically, doesn't that make it so HL teams will be taking more games with the deck stacked against them? I'm not very good at analyzing scheduling and its effects on the conference as a whole. If you could go more in depth I'd appreciate it.

This is some really interesting news if true. I wonder if this is going to cause us some problems since we apparently already have trouble getting buy games.

Winning Thursday could be the rubber of a five-game winning streak with very winnable games against Robert Morris and IUPUI following. 9-6 looks a hell of a lot better than 6-6.
You guys can sure score a lot. 79.1 ppg in conference is nothing to shake a stick at, especially when Calvin is the only big time surefire bucket getter. That Welage kid killed us on Thursday, he should play more.
I looked up the stat: if Welage plays over 20 minutes in a game, Wright State wins. He's scored in double figures in five of the six games he's played 22 or more minutes, all wins. In games where he attempts six or more shots from the field, Wright State is 6-2 (losses to PFW and Oakland).
As for Alex Huibregtse (yowza that's a name), Wright State is 7-1 when he plays 25 or more minutes and 11-3 when he plays 21 or more. When he attempts seven or more shots in a game, Wright State is 7-1. The PFW game is the only time he has scored in double figures and the Raiders have lost.
Reading through the game thread against us last week, I could tell you guys sniffed something, so I searched for some context and it was blatantly easy to see.
It's obvious to me that these guys are something of a lynchpin.
Conversely, I took a look at someone everyone outside of WSU was high on coming into the season - Brandon Noel.
In 10 games the Raiders have played where he has played 30 or more minutes, Wright State is 5-5. So maybe the answer is not relying on him so much. I realize we're talking about guards vs a forward, but he might be playing too much.
Amari Davis, on the other hand, is definitely someone who should be sitting more. The Raiders are 4-9 when he plays 22 or more minutes, and 0-5 if he plays 30 or more. The Raiders lost his top six games for minutes played, and all four games he attempted 15 or more shots. When he went 7-for-15 from the field and to score 17 points and 13 rebounds against Davidson (his only double-digit rebound game), they lost. Lastly, the Raiders are 2-5 when AJ Braun plays 23 minutes or more.
What this all tells me is WSU is just too thin in the post otherwise Nagy wouldn't have to play frontcourt guys so much. But then again, this is kinda true about the entire conference.
You guys know more than me, so you'll be able to tell me if this is all hogwash or not.

Maybe we needed to get punched in the mouth. The Raiders are a perfect foil for us. Even if we somehow come back I don't wanna see you guys in the HLT.
