Horizon League Network to debut pay-per-view system for men's basketball championship March 5, 2009 INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League Network (HLN) will debut a new product on Friday, March 6 as the network will feature a pay-per-view system for the two second round games of the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship. The games will feature an increased level of production quality, including a five-camera shoot complete with TV graphics, instant replay and more. "We have provided free content on HLN for the past four years and we feel it is time to test the market with a pay-per-view product," said Jonathan B. LeCrone, Horizon League Commissioner. "We certainly believe our production standards have improved to a point that will continue to attract customers to the Horizon League Network on a paid basis." The games will be available to registered users of HLN for $5/each. www.horizonleague.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/030509aaa.html

A lot of cheap bastards are going to bitch and moan about this, but it's a smart move by the HL. Giving away a product for free is a very poor business decision. The HL should have done this years ago. People will complain about the price, but my guess is most of them will end up paying it because when all is said and done, they know it's a good value. I believe I paid $6.99 to see the Sam Houston St game earlier this year and Arkansas-Little Rock charged $7.95. Five bucks is a reasonable fee.

I don't mind paying to see the games friday. I've paid to see us play online earlier this year. My only concern is the production quality of the feeds are not always good. If the HL expects people to pay to see games, they need to improve the production quality quite a bit for next season.

The timing of this sucks. They could have announced this earlier rather than wait until the night before the games.

Yeah, no surprise. I just hope they will offer team packages next year instead of per game or having to buy the whole league schedule.

Yeah, no surprise. I just hope they will offer team packages next year instead of per game or having to buy the whole league schedule. I expect to see 3 different packages for next year on the HLN: 1) individual game plan 2) entire season package for 1 HL team 3) entire season package for all HL teams

I don't even have a credit card, nor do i plan to get one while in college. I know kids with credit cards, they all use them recklessly. Good for you all maybe, not so much for me, this will really complicate things on my end. They should at least offer a free version of the network for students or we simply won't see the games, bottom line. No student I know would even consider this as an option. Although I do realize that we students likely are not the HLN target audience.

It sucks that you have to pay for each game individually Friday. It seems like they would make it a 2 for 1 thing.

You can pay for a paypal account with your bank account.

First I will need to set up a checking account, and that won't happen by tomorrow. HL shouldn't have sprung this on us so suddenly. And I can't stand the idea of even fewer people watching our games.
