Just something to keep an eye on while the NCAA Volleyball Tournament will start this week. Former Raider Volleyball Associate Head Coach Rob Beam has delivered Oakland a Horizon League Championship(http://goo.gl/fWWzbU) and their first spot in school history in the big dance (http://goo.gl/SD2bIp), while also picking up 2014 Horizon League Coach of the Year (http://goo.gl/IbHRgX). The Golden Grizzlies will face off against Kentucky December 5th @ 7:30PM.
Former Raider VB player, Allison (Smerz) Yaeger has led Seton Hall Pirates to their first ever birth in the tournament (http://goo.gl/Sj3M1S), gaining an at large bid after losing in the Big East Conference Championship game this past weekend (http://goo.gl/h87ek4). Coach Yaeger was also named the 2014 Big East Coach of the year (http://goo.gl/9wB89b). The Pirates square off against BYU December 4th @6pm.
It's nice to see some former Raiders having success in the volleyball coaching world.

Thought I would bring this to the board's attention.
Brownell was most likely already on the hot seat before the season began. He is in his 5th season at Clemson. He inherited a very talented team from Oliver Purnell when he began his tenure. OP had brought his Clemson teams to 3 straight NCAA tourneys in 3 consecutive seasons before departing, finishing 5th place in the ACC or better each of those years. Many were surpised when OP left to coach at Big East bottom-feeder DePaul (Some theories later surfaced that the decision was made after some had discovered he was having an affair with the Women's Swim coach).
Anyways, more on Brownell. Clemson made the NCAA tourney in his inaugural season but have not returned since. He might have saved his job last season by going 23-13, but still missed the Dance. This season they have suffered losses to neighboring Carolina mid-majors Gardner Webb and Winthrop! That's comparable to Ohio State losing to Toledo and Akron! Also had a bad home loss to Rutgers. Has one good win vs. a tough LSU team, but other than that narrow victories over Nevada and High Point.
I remember two years ago people discussing Donlon jumping to a power conference and rumors that there had been talks making it a real possibility. I don't see that ever happening now, but if it somehow did they would be packing his bags even more quickly than what they will Brownell. Donlon is in some ways BB's protégé. Similar coaching styles and mindsets. With the way the college game has strengthened talent wise with forcing kids to go to school, and college athletes being more athletic than ever before, I just don't see how coaches that try to slow the game down and limit possessions can be successful.

Honestly, it's basketball at Clemson. They're never expected to be in the top 4 of the ACC and I think a reasonable record will be accepted season-in and season-out. As long as the noses are clean and they can avoid a 20-loss season, I don't anticipate any changes.
