gerb, if there is one common thread running thru the bd era it is players leaving the program and winding up playing div ii or lower level basketball. there had to be a dozen or more and it just does not reflect well on his player evaluation skills. a large part of why he failed here at wsu.

Looked out of curiosity... 5th on team in scoring at 10.1 ppg through 11 games. 2nd in rebounds at 5.1 per game. Shooting 40.9% on 3's (18-44) Good team - they are 10-1 on the year.

Does anyone know if Donlon's standards were quantitatively based? Or is Mortensen just receiving better instruction at the D II level about defensive techniques and fundamentals and allowed to develop?? From reading the article it sounds like the latter. Allowed to develop, learn about techniques and philosophies, and use his grey matter to compensate for his physical limitations. FWIW, I really, REALLY, like cerebral players that know how to play the game.
It is ironic that Donlon compiled a roster full of mainly D II players and the one player he sparingly played, due to Donlon's own objective standards, is now the feature of an article about defense in D II.

www.thisweeknews.com/sports/20170511/boys-basketball-bills-resigns-after-four-seasons-as-desales-coachThe coach who helped restore the DeSales High School boys basketball team to prominence has stepped down. Joe Bills resigned May 8 and plans to teach English at Upper Arlington. Bills also taught English at DeSales. Bills, who played for Zanesville Rosecrans and Wright State, was 58-41 overall and 15-17 in the CCL in four seasons. “I’m getting married this summer, and I have always told my players that in life, you have to weigh your priorities,” Bills said. “Faith and family come first. I felt this was a good time to take a step back away from being a head coach. It’s time for me to put my family first.” Bills oversaw a resurgence for the Stallions, coaching them from records of 7-16 overall and 0-8 in the CCL in his first season to a Division II regional runner-up finish in his third. Last season, DeSales went 18-7 overall and 5-3 in the CCL, losing to Eastmoor Academy 54-51 in overtime in a Division II district semifinal. “Joe did a fantastic job. We are sad to see him go,” athletics director Tom Neubert said. “He had to make a tough decision that was best for him. He knew the CCL well and he competed in it (at Rosecrans) and this was a place he really wanted to be. He’s a tremendous competitor.”

RaiderFan, must have been before your time. Archives show he played in 20 games ( 2013-14 ) and 26 games ( 2014-15 ). Looks like he went to Texas A&M Commerce after his time here.

Yeah, that's definitely before my time, just barely. I've only been around this for two seasons now. I guess I was just assuming he transferred straight from here to that new school and I really skimmed the article. Thanks!
