Coach mentioned at one of the coach's shows that we were close to signing a contract last year with VCU but couldn't get the dates to work. I hope it is still in the works for this season.

Unknown: Alcorn State and Western Carolina (were they buy games or the start of new series last year?) Miami (there was talk last summer that they wanted to end their series with us) My guess is that Alcorn and Western Carolina were the start of home and home series. I doubt we had the finances to play them as home buy games last year. I think Miami is off the schedule too based on the article written last year about their coach's new scheduling strategy.

Western Carolina is far from a great opponent, but I have no issue playing them. They were decent this year, and it will be a challenge to go down there and win.

If Alcorn State and Western Carolina are on the schedule this year it is what it is. We made those contracts last year and have to live with them. I am more concerned about all new contracts we start this year. I want our coach and AD to learn from past mistakes and realize our fan base is not going to be happy with a schedule full of cupcakes. Time to step it up Donlon and Grant.

Well, if we are playing those 2, the schedule isn't exactly looking much better than last season so far. @ Bowling Green (RPI 198) @ Evansville (RPI 216) @ Western Carolina (RPI 225) @ Alcorn State (RPI 315)

I find it hard to belive we can't find a home&away games with teams that are in traveling distance for fans. Miami, Bowling Green I can see. Especially if we are not playing a top 50 team. I don't think the schedule is going to be any better next year if we already have those games scheduled mentioned before.

The horizon league needs to expand so that there are fewer OOC games to schedule.

Raider rowdies, the question people should be asking is why are we scheduling home and homes with some of these really bad programs. Imho, the past couple of years we have been so desperate to get bad teams on our schedule that we signed these h & h agreements with teams like nca & t. Look for that to continue. Also look for 1-2 div iii teams to be on the schedule. Overall the schedule will be about the same sos as the past two years.

how many div III games can we have a year, is it only 2? Ideally we could schedule all of our OOC games against Div III, we enter conference play at 15 and 0, and our RPI is not impacted by playing crappy DI teams. Just a thought.

That is a great idea. The NCAA selection committee would look what a strong RPI we have since the Div. 2 or 3 games don't count for RPI and our SOS would look good as well. I bet the real fans would be there to watch every game. We might lose a few casual fans but the real ones will be there. Go a little farther and get a home vs home with Cedarville, Sinclair, Wittenburg, Central State.

I don't think we could include Sinclair but, maybe you could throw in Wilmington, Urbana, Capital or Ohio Dominican. They might even bring some fans to make up the difference.

Just glad our board is busy with fans of the school. The rest of the league is dead as far as their message boards go.

I don't know if it is humanly possible to find a college basketball message board that strays from the original intent so often. We may mess around with the notion of things like playing non D-1 schools. I think the fans come up with some good ideas at times. I don't need a message board to have Hopkins, Grant, or Donlon listen to what I have to say ( not that they necessarily listen other than as a courtesy ) but, people at WSU knows some of things being posted. It's okay to be disappointed with aspects of the season or want better but, give a little credit if it is deserved and they might surprise you. Personally, I think some are a glutton for punishment to read this stuff.
I once did a book report ( 2 lifetimes ago in grade school ) on hall-of-fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. He said his intention was to always throw a no-hitter. He was flexible enough in his thinking to adjust his goal to throwing a 1-hitter, 2-hitter, and so on. Some of the people here make me think that once the no-hitter is no longer possible that it almost doesn't matter whether the team wins or loses. It's okay to have more than one goal and find new goals along the way. If the ultimate goal is the NCAA tourney then we came pretty close. I didn't like it when we didn't take care of business but, maybe next time.

I assume Grant and BD are in North Texas this week with the vast majority of other AD's and coaches. Hopefully they're networking and putting in some effort to try and put together a better schedule for next year and the year after.
I know on the basketball travelers board we're looking for games (MTE, BUY, and to start a home-and-home) in big caps it says--WE LOSE 5 SENIORS!
I'm not sure what to make of that other than it's written to imply, "we won't be very good so don't worry about us beating you." I guess that's a double-edged sword for schools looking at buy games. It more than likely means a win vs. WSU however, some of the power schools looking for buy games state they're looking for top 150 or top 200 RPI programs. If they think WSU will backslide and have a sub 200 RPI next year they may not even call, or I don't know, maybe offer less $$.
I saw in the cincy paper that UC is about finished with their schedule. We're not on it. If other bigger programs, like that of UC, are also near finished does that mean we scramble around again through the spring and summer trying to find schools willing to schedule us and we end up with more home-and-homes with MEAC and SWAC schools?
