The pitcher's mound is dirt...when they left ( or when I left the ESPN3 feed ) the mound was covered.

Not sure why Timm bats third. He should be more of a 7 or 8-hole hitter. Love our lineup overall though.
Good to see us get out to a lead today. Hopefully we can hold on to it after the rain delay.

ESPNU just mentioned that the teams in Champaign went back to the hotels for now.

Goodness gracious. Oh well, at least we've got a 3-run pad. Course, we had a 3-run lead yesterday early in the game too.

The night cap was pushed out until tomorrow (time TBA), sounds like we might pick it back up tomorrow as well, hence their game being TBA

WSU closed it out 8-3, stays alive, and remains undefeated in OOC teams from Ohio.
WSU will play the loser of UI vs ND this evening.

Interesting to note, Illinois and Notre Dame first pitch is at 4pm, the loser will have an hour to change, and hit the diamond again. That may play advantage Raiders.
Either way, WSU needs to win 3 games in 3 days. No easy feat for any team against anybody.

In a surprising move, coach Lovelady is starting Van Horn in this game.

In a surprising move, coach Lovelady is starting Van Horn in this game. Bad idea IMO. Is Randolph hurt? The two pitchers that get rocked more than anyone on this staff are Swaney and Van Horn.

So far so good....I don't think Lovelady expects him to stay in long...but Notre Dame probably has a lot more scouting done on the starters, may have surprised them with this move. I can't think coach will let him get into a position to put this game out of our control. He's had some control issues, but he's making pitches to get outs.
WSU will come to bat, bottom 4, with a 1-0 lead.
Since going to this format, no Horizon League team has won 2 games. 5 teams have won one (07 and 08 UIC, 13 Valpo, 14 YSU, and 15 WSU) Horizon League baseball is trending up!
