You might be correct '79, but I think that the conference is seeing improved coaching, something that was definitely needed. The 2018-19 season might still be a rebuilding year for many in the Horizon, but I think that programs like YSU, CSU, and UWM will see some improvements based on how those teams showed progress through this season. Huh?? What progress has CSU shown through the season? They've only won 7 games all year vs. D I competition. 3 of those wins 7 wins have come in the past 10 games in the HL. Seriously, 3-7 in the past 10 games in one of the worst leagues is showing progress? Really? YSU has won a total of 6 games vs. D I Competition. Like their Cleveland State brethren they too are 3-7 in the past 10 games in the HL. Half of YSU's total victories vs D I comp have come against a woefully pathetic conference and yet they're 3-7 in the last 10. 6-22 overall. 3-7 last 10. In your eyes they're showing "progress." Really?? Playing devil's advocate, maybe '86 sees collecting half of your wins in the last 10 games of the season as improvement, albeit against low level HL foes. I think it will take a couple years, as with Nagy, to see if the other HL schools really are moving in the right direction with their new hires. Theoretically I think the majority of the League should improve the next couple years (it's hard to get much worse) except for Oakland who is losing 99% of their production.

The HL has sunk to the 26th rated conference out of 32. That is FACT. This conference under Lecrone's tutelage, has sunk faster than the Titanic. The quicker WSU can exit this dumpster fire of a conference the better. Agreed. No need to sugar coat this thing. All we can ask for is wins...and wins when they count.

We can all agree there is no where to go but up in the Horizon League. Can only sink a few more spots. Definitely lots of upside to go.

You can cover a turd in chocolate, but it's still a turd. The HL is a turd. All of the what could be's, what might be's and what we all hope may be's are just that. Wishful thinking vs what is reality starring you right in the face. The HL is a bottom dwelling conference. The Defense rest it's case.

I based CSU's progress on their recent road wins against UIC and YSU, and their win against the Raiders in the past few weeks. Sorry if it offended anyone. There is no doubt that the conference rating is lower than ever, but I have some optimism in the future, but only if WSU and NKU are still in the Horizon, and with their current coaches.

If the Reds had a great September would you expect them to compete this year? I think I saw a picture from CSU and I think there were maybe 6 players honored on Senior Day.

Okay, CSU may have been a stretch, but their coach was highly successful at Western Kentucky and won an SEC conference tournament while at Georgia. My initial point was that I thought the quality of the coaching was an improvement. I don't think that CSU is winning the Horizon next year, I just think if Felton sticks around, the program can improve.

given where this league has been vs where this league is now, how can lecrone still have a job?? does he have something on the athletic directors?? is he working for free?? there has to be something. obvious question left hanging. how bad does it have to get before they get rid of of this guy??

Cleveland State has been an anchor for the league the last three years, but I think Felton can turn it around. Felton gets to hit the reset button going into his second year. With six outgoing Gary Waters era seniors and a Depaul transfer sitting on the bench CSU will be a completely different team next year. If Ty Appleby and Stef Kenic are any indication of Felton's ability to find players to contribute to his system there is a lot of promise for the Vikings going forward.
I have not seen enough from UDM or YSU this season to see a quick turn around. Baby steps for the HL.

Prediction for next year is the Horizon will be ranked 17 next year in RPI. This has been a sad rebuilding year with a new team added after losing Valpo. It looks as if the new coaches have some talent coming in.

Rose colored glasses. Glass is half full. Lots of upside. Got to think positive since we are stuck here at least a couple more years.

Remember when a bunch of schools left the Mid-Con back in 1993 (Cleveland State, UIC, Northern Illinois, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Wright State) and joined what was left of the MCC? That is needed again. The only way to save the Horizon League is to take the top 6 teams from the Horizon League and the top 6 teams in the Summit to form a new league. All twelve schools would need to agree to commit to their basketball programs. There is too much deadwood in the Horizon League now to be excited about it's future. There aren't 6 good teams in the HL
