I just wish we could fire them all and start from scratch. They already make above the average for professors in the state of Ohio.

More bad news. First the budget problem, which is still an ongoing issue, I think, and now this. This kind of bad publicity certainly won't help the staffs recruiting efforts. I'm going to look at this as a positive. Wright State's new president has been trying to get us back on track financially since she was hired. The 3 biggest issues she has faced is our financial deficit, the H1-B visas scandal, and getting our faculty to agree to a new contract. They made enough changes to the budget last year that we turned a profit and avoided fiscal watch by the state of Ohio. She settled the visa issue by agreeing to a fine. This is the last major issue she needs to deal with before she can focus on what really matters-getting our enrollment up so we can start really getting back in the black. Our faculty has their heads firmly up their asses on this issue. An independent arbitrator agreed with WSU's offer for the next contract. We don't have the finances to offer them more until we increase enrollment. One way or another, we will have a new contract with them after the strike ends and we can move forward. I honestly hope the strike lasts about a month. I think WSU can survive with temp staffing. Our faculty is made up of a bunch of typical university egomaniacs who think they can't be replaced. I think most of them expect WSU to fold before the strike happens or very quickly after it starts. I doubt any of them are financially prepared to go without a paycheck or healthcare for an extended period of time. The longer this goes on the better chance WSU has to get them to agree to a contract that is in WSU's best interest. In regards to recruiting, we have our class filled for next year. As long as this doesn't linger into next year it shouldn't hurt recruiting long term.

I would like to take a moment to wish the moderators luck in what could become a shitshow of a discussion.

Tons of negatives with this, but the silver lining is the propagandization and indoctrination of the student body will cease if they strike.... I cannot believe the strait up bullshit the faculty has been telling students. They have been running a huge smear campaign in social media for the last year against WSU. The 2 biggest lies they have been telling lately are: 1. They are striking for the students to "protects the value of the students’ education and degrees." That is a direct quote from tweets I see from faculty members all of the time. I've seen their demands. They want higher wages, cheaper healthcare, and they don't want to be furloughed if WSU is goes over budget. None of their demands effects the value of our student's education and degrees. If WSU gives into all of their demands I hope these students realize that the only way to pay for it is to raise tuition or fees. 2. They are telling students to drop their classes this semester because their classes won't meet the requirements to count towards their degrees if they are not taught by WSU's regular faculty. That is complete BS and if students listen to that it is going to set back those students from being able to complete their degrees on time and it is going to further set back WSU's financial problems.

The faculty is trying extremely hard to tie themselves to students to make it 2 against 1. Students and teachers against admin. Only 1/3 of faculty are a part of the union, so as a student, I am interested to see what my professors do individually. I know of professors who are refusing to post course resources on Pilot (our online class resources page basically for those who don’t know) due to this strike. Sounds like a majority of professors are taking a wait and see approach this week. As an engineering student, I’m not sure my faculty will be accurately representative of the whole faculty but we shall see. All I can say is it better not keep me from graduating in 3.5 months.

Well this sucks. The strike has already cost us one recruit for next year. The university needs to get this settled before we start losing more recruits and our coaching staff who has to be frustrated beyond all get go.

Strike or no strike, a lot of damage has already been done. Even if both sides come to a kumbaya moment, the trust between faculty and administration has been greatly destroyed -- and will be for a long time to come -- regardless of what happens from here on out. This is not, and probably never will be, the same University that it was.
