Looks like the strike will be over by the end of tomorrow. The board just scheduled a meeting for tomorrow evening so they must be pretty sure a deal is going to come out of negotiations tonight.

Allow me to finish that paragraph from the DDN for everyone: "The university is also closed through Thursday because of the weather." The windchill is 20 below zero. That's deadly exposure. Your position is noted, but pick your spots on where to disparage the other side. This is pretty weak.

Let’s see you standing for hours outside your place of employment when it’s closed and 20 below 0. Nice try

The strike should end in the next couple of days. My guess is the union teachers will be back in their classrooms at the start of next week. I just hope whatever deal the University agrees on is something that the university can financially handle. Since the faculty has said countless times they are ONLY doing this for the students it’s going to be a major kick in the nuts for these students that have been supporting them to find out their tuition is getting jacked up next year to cover the unions demands.
And a FYI to Gerb and Cincydrummer, it doesn’t matter what the temp is outside. The union has well over 500 members on strike. It was pretty nice out last week. I only say between 15-20 people picketing outside the main entrance to Wright State last Thursday and Friday when I drove by at lunchtime.

The thing that irked the hell out of me was the selective editing and using that to make a point. Weak sauce.

Not due to cold temperatures. They did not picket on Wednesday and Thursday because school was closed and there were no classes. That is also why they do not picket on Saturdays and Sundays. And even if there is no picketing, the faculty exerts their power by not being in the classroom. The bottom line is that they (except for a few) are not teaching.

If one is striking for the very soul of the university then the weather shouldn't matter. There is nothing...nothing...that comes close to the importance of the essence, the indispensable quality, that determines the makeup and character of the institution. If one is so moved and believes that to their core--their very being--for the soul of the university then the weather is irrelevant.
The U.S.P.S. delivered mail in our area yesterday. Yes, it's cold and they had a job to do and did it by taking proper precautions. They were able to be exposed to the elements for a job...not fighting for their soul. And cincydrummer, if I had such strong convictions, that my core beliefs--the fabric of my very being--were being trampled upon and destroyed I would do everything in my power to stand up against the oppressor. And that includes being out in 20-below wind chill.
Finally, Klinger, unfortunately these socialists also exert their powers (influence) when they're in the classroom too, but that's a whole other topic for another day...

I am on the same page with you there, MRose. That subject matter has been well documented on cable news channels. Yep, subject for another discussion, but there are a few -- and I stress the word "few" -- that I would not label as socialist/liberal etc.

Although I may not agree with the “reasons” faculty say they are striking, I can understand why they would have concern over them and that’s fine. But what drives me insane is when they spew this false crap about how the admin is trying to take away their right to negotiate over workload. Let’s be extremely clear...in the state of Ohio, negotiating workload is not legal. Under Ohio law. It is literally illegal. The admin has addressed this publicly countless times. And the faculty has never addressed that claim. Not a single time. But even in the most recently published articles, faculty continue to say the admin is trying to take away their right to negotiate workload. So, one must ask themselves, are these faculty members who are talking to news outlets completely oblivious to these facts or are they just blatantly continuing to lie...

The union boys at the Post Office didn't deliver in my town yesterday. Not that the Post Office is that important anymore.............

If this was on my Facebook account I would have hidden most of these posts. I don’t have any personal knowledge about the issues and discussions. I’m not sure how most of them related to this forum. GO RAIDERS

I’m not sure how most of them related to this forum. GO RAIDERS This a forum for WSU sports. This thread is about the biggest issue affecting WSU's finances right now. If WSU's finances get any worse the state of Ohio can put us under fiscal watch and take over all of WSU's budgeting. They could drastically cut the athletic department's budget. It could force us to eliminate sports all together. Best case scenario, this strike ends quickly and doesn't not hurt our finances too bad and WSU can continue on it's path to recovery. Even then to cover the cost of what the union wants WSU might have to decrease our athletic budget next year. That could effect Bob Grant's ability to extend Coach Nagy's contract which only has 1-2 more years on the original deal. WSU's current financial woes would also prevent us from moving to a better conference if an offer came. I hope that gives you an idea of how this thread relates to this forum. If sports goes under because of WSU's finances than this board has no reason to exist.

To go a step further, it's incredibly ironic to have one of the Hall-of-Fame inductees this year come from a now defunct sports program. A sports program that was one of the most successful programs in WSU's athletic department's history, but cut due to budget issues...……………………………….
