Whew. Much closer game than I thought with all the changes going on at Tennessee Tech. Won 8 games last year, replaced their coach, and lost 2 of their top 4 scorers. Still gave us a hell of a fight.
I think that would have been a pretty crappy loss to take if we get to 23-25 wins and a team finishing in the bottom quarter of a pretty weak conference beat us.
I think we learned a lot tonight. We saw a 10 minute dry spell, but sti dropped 85. We played like hot garbage without Love, but kept coming back to him for high percentage looks. We know we've got freshman who can impact this team and make a dagger of a shot when it is needed.
A bus ride (or did we charter this?) home is a hellaofalot sweeter with a W than an L. Take it and move on.

Saturday’s opponent, Kent St, also had an overtime win yesterday, 84-80 over Towson.

The Raiders pulled out a win and they didn't play all that well. This team is an experienced team that still needs to get a lot better and I think this win will help this team down the road.

Glad Wampler was able to stick with it and turn it around the first half. I think he started like 0/5 behind the 3 pt line and then when 4/7. Won't be able to do that against good teams.

I got home in time to watch the second half. We are going to have to learn to get some stops, or every game is going to be closer than it should.
On a positive note, we have the athletes and size to be a good defensive team. We just need time to play better team defense. We don't have a stopper like Mark, or a communicator like Parker, so different people will need to step up.
I am excited to watch this team grow.

I was stunned at the number of layups TT was gifted in that game. We've got good athletes out there and the Coach preaches defense, but MAN, we gave up a ton of layups/bunnies and then wide-open 333.
That's two road games in a row where the officiating suddenly got wonky in the second half and the home team found a friend in need. Not as bad as the start of the second half at Miami, but again just odd.
I don't like the lack of PT for Potter. The man is a great athlete and has improved as a shooter. I think he plays Wampler's role next year but with even more athleticism - and Billy is no slouch in the athleticism dept.
Our end-of-half and end-of-game scheme is much too predictable and we wait too long on the clock to get moving...making us even more predictable. I love Cole, but he isn't a guy that easily gets off his shot. We need him to penetrate a little earlier and have options waiting for a catch and shoot - read Potter, Wampler - and/or dish to Love/Holden or then simply take the shot. Less one-on-one bravado please. Hopefully this is just a rust-removal period in the early part of the season.
I don't see how we can red-shirt Calvin. I am just-ok with Ash as the backup PG and do not want to see Jaylon playing PG. Ash gives us some defensive strength-although-without-much height but doesn't strike me as an orchestrate(r) and Hall is quite versatile but I'm not a fan of his ball-handling and many decisions in the offensive flow at times - read trying too hard. Calvin is quick and decisive. If Cole gets dinged or in foul trouble, we will need Calvin's skillset.
This team is fun to watch (mostly) and it'll be interesting to see how Nagy uses the talent. I hope Dozic is a good defender. Love and Wampler have picked up where they left off and Holden is a stud in the making. I don't mean this in a bad/mean way, but I'm already seeing why M Smith transferred out. Loved his play and potential, but this squad is different athletically and minutes will be hard to come by.

He can't be redshirted now. He has already played in regular season games this year.

He can't be redshirted now. He has already played in regular season games this year. I think a player can play in four games and still red-shirt. Don't quote me on that, but that's my understanding. Edited to add: I just looked that up and I was thinking/seeing the college FOOTBALL red-shirt rules allowing participation in four games - which seems silly.
