They are 1-3 so far with losses at Michigan State, @ Notre Dame, and @ home to Kent State. Their 1 win came @ Western Michigan. Antoine Davis is their leading scorer @ 18.3ppg, but he's taken 84 shots to score 73 points. He's 4-34 on 3pt shots for a blistering 11.8%. He's also taken nearly 1/3 of all of the teams field goal attempts. If Jaylon can keep him in check then I think 2 wins should be in order. According to Detroit News, Detroit will be adding 3 new big men to their rotation this week: Reserves on the way
Detroit Mercy picked up its first win of the season, beating Western Michigan, 67-57, on Saturday, following losses to Michigan State, Notre Dame and Kent State. Interestingly, the Titans only used seven players all game — and one of those players, Brad Calipari, only played three minutes. Detroit Mercy only played eight players in each of the first three games. The depth is about to change, with junior forward Chris Brandon, last season's leading rebounder, getting close to returning from a wrist injury. Tulane 7-footer Buay Koka has joined the program and is eligible and should play soon, and Niagara 6-11 swingman Noah Waterman is expected to be declared immediately eligible Wednesday. The NCAA could actually rule to make all transfers immediately eligible Wednesday, at least all the transfers that are still waiting. Most already had been approved. Waterman might not have been available for many of the early season games anyway, as he's been among the Detroit Mercy players in contact-tracing protocol. Despite the lack of depth, Detroit Mercy has held its own in the early going — and also despite poor shooting from junior guard Antoine Davis, who is making just 33% of his field goals this season, and 12% on 3-pointers. www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2020/12/15/state-hoops-oaklands-rashad-williams-can-make-more-free-throws-row-than-you-can/3909545001/

My initial concern (if there was any) on a quick scan of their stat lines was that Detroit’s bigs have put up a few threes a game, which draws Love out to his weak point on the perimeter. Now Detroit is adding some true bigs (and I mean BIGs! - Waterman is 6’11”, Koka is 7’1”) and Brandon lives in the paint going 0-5 from beyond the arc in his career. This completely shifts the dynamics and, I’m sure, affects what Davis does. So, depending on health and the timing of eligibility approvals, this could be a completely different team and strategy than what’s been on the floor this year. This may have just gotten interesting.

Also, from the Detroit News story linked above:
State power rankings
1. Michigan State (6-0)
2. Michigan (6-0)
3. Detroit Mercy (1-3)
4. Western Michigan (1-4)
5. Oakland (0-7)
6. Eastern Michigan (1-2)
7. Central Michigan (3-3)

Does anyone have any idea what caliber of player these new guys are for Detroit? Just because they are tall, doesn't mean they are any good. Curious if anyone has any insights.

Buay Koka played in 34 games for Tulane over 3 seasons and he was basically worthless, 67 total points over 3 seasons. Doesn't look like he got much opportunity to play, but I'm not one to watch AAC basketball in my free time.
Waterman played in 8 games last season and average 6ppg, averaging 19 minutes per game.
