This teams good, but maybe expectations were a little too high.

Embarassing way to choke defensively. Two in a row to teams at the bottom of the league. Cleveland State up 3 games on us now after plastering NKU tonight. Feels insurmountable. 2 games up on us, not 3

Embarrassing breakdown on National TV, the second in a row after a second half comeback. If Nagy doesn’t trust his bench to go deeper playing meaningful minutes, I’m not sure the ceiling is very high for this team.

Has Hall played this half? Hall subbed out at 17:21 in the 2nd half and never re-entered the game. When Finke hit the game-tying shot no reaction from Hall on the bench, stayed seated in his chair. Hall was statistically horrible, 1/9 FG, 3 Turnovers. Several forced shots in the first half. Before the season I posted that Hall would be the key to this team. Hope he can bounce back tomorrow, this team is thin enough as is.

Nagy has been quoted in the paper about having to worry about losing Hall mentally when he gets off to a poor start in games. Sounds like it happened again. That 15 seed is going to be a tough draw if we find a way to make the tournament now. :/

Hall has been epically (sp?) bad on numerous/most occasions this year...last year as well. He is so sloppy with the ball that I'm surprised he even gets on the court. His shot selection is ridiculously selfish and he is NOT the 3pt shooter that he apparently fancies himself to be. I've read what a great defender he is...and I simply rarely see that. I don't recollect a WSU player who got/gets more rope/run than Hall without showing the effectiveness on the court...and certainly not since Nagy got here. IMO we lost M Smith and S Potter in part because they were stuck behind a guy who appeared to have some inexplicable favored status. If you were a non-fan watching us play this year, you would easily see which player is different from the others..and not in a good way by any stretch. Coach Nagy clips more coaching talent off of his pinky-fingernail than I will ever have...bur even the best can get blinded by something with certain player(s). I'm simply frustrated by what I have seen time and time again. Coach is going to HAVE to get other guys involved because the 5-man rotation isn't going to survive the season. At some point, other guys are going to HAVE to play - whether or not they've earned it in practice. I don't like that...but that's where are right now.

Thanks Willie for your comments. Somebody had to say it. Hall's body language tells me that mentally, he's already out the door. His play offensively has been selfish and out of control, taking bad shots, turning the ball over, etc. He leads the team in turnovers with his poor decision making. He is not the same player we saw during his freshman season.

I've read what a great defender he is...and I simply rarely see that. Hall had a bad game last night. Everyone on this team has had a bad game one night or another this year. It's pretty idiotic to make a post like the one above with NO facts to back it up so lets actually look at the facts. 1. He is sloppy with the ball. That is in part true. Hall leads the team in TOs at 33 but he also is second on the team in assists at 30. Love has 28 TOs compared to his 21 assists. Finke has 19 TOs compared to his 18 assists. Guess we should bench them too. 2. His shot selection is ridiculously selfish and he is NOT the 3pt shooter that he apparently fancies himself to be. Hall is shooting 38.6% from the field which is 4th best of our starters and 36.6% from 3 which is SECOND best of our starters. Our PG Calvin, which you have praised on multiple occasions wsuwillie, is shooting worse than him from the field and from 3 at 38.5% and 35.1% respectively. And Calvin has chucked up more FG and 3 point attempts to boot. wsuwillie, if I am remembering correctly you have also been one of the guys calling for James Manns to play more. He is shooting 36.8% from the field and 22.2% from 3 this year. 3. I've read what a great defender he is...and I simply rarely see that. Hall's defense sucked last night. There is no arguing that. It's part of the reason he got benched in the second half. He has gotten the defensive assignment of our opponent's top scorer every game for the last 2 years. That doesn't happen if you are a bad defended. If you want to lay blame as to why we lost last night, you might want to look in the box score. the guy Hall was defending for 1/2 the game he played only scored 12 points. The guy that won the game for YSU last night had 28 points and made our HL POTY candidate look like a JV basketball player. Maybe our coach should have figured that out and put anyone on Bohannon besides Love. Bohannon is a SF playing the post for YSU. Love had no chance to stay with him. Switching up defenders should have occurred at some point in the game but never did. YSU is a bad 3 point shooting team for the season. They started off hot last night but still ended up only 5-14. They won the game by getting in the lane and making easy high percentage shots and getting offensive rebounds and easy put back buckets. The games they lost this year were against teams that played a lot of zone defense against them. That prevents them from getting those easy inside shots and forces them to take more 3s. Our coach acts like zone defense is a 4 letter word when you ask him about it, even though our own team struggles against zones quite often. It makes absolutely no sense to not play some zone, especially when our coach does not want to use his bench. Playing really good man to man defense exhorts a lot more energy than playing zone does.

The way Hall has carried himself the last couple of games has been remarkable. His body language and expressions look like he’s beating up on himself to the point of depression. I’ve seen that look before in other people and it’s not healthy.

For my perspective about what this team needs. They need a player on the bench who will be a cheerleader and get the rest of the bench enthused more. This team needs to psychologically infused with a winning desire. But more importantly a true hatred for losing. Winning and losing depends on team play. I love to win but hate to lose. They need to come to play as a team and an attitude of team play and not individual play. I agree with gerb and the people who can help him are the teammates.
