Gonna be a lot different than last year’s 64-62 road win to clinch the HL regular season title, my best road memory of Raider basketball.
Let’s get two more!

Big series to end the year. I'm sure we will get NKU's best shot since they consider us their rivals.

Yeah, I don’t buy it. NKU was the best team in the league besides us the last few years so people got excited to play them. Before that it was Valpo. Before that it was Butler. The trend there is none of those schools were really rivals, we just got excited to play them because they were the top dog we wanted to take down. If CSU continues to be good the next few years and NKU continues being mediocre, the talk of CSU being our true rival will begin. It is what it is. As long as people are getting excited about the games we play you can call anyone our rival if you want.

I don't think the coach is going to let them think that. Plus, they know that, having (as you mentioned) lost three times in the conference. Not to say it's not possible they'll have another clinker, but I can't imagine they're going in there assuming they're going to win easily.

There’s no way they could think they’re invincible. They’ve lost three games to teams they beat by 39, 38, and 36 on the same weekend. They know it’s possible to lose to even the same group of guys you beat by three dozen in a 24 hour span.
Also, they’re still in second place.

NKU has won 7 of their last 8 games. These 2 games could turn out to be real dogfights, whether they are our rivals or not. Keys to the series for us. #1. Take care of the ball. #2. Share/move the ball on offense. #3. Play hard on defense. Do that and I think our guys come out with 2 wins.

I think the key to success this live or die with the play of Love. If NKU gets him in foul trouble, or gets him frustrated at the rim, it could be a long weekend. These are Lou's chance to prove to the league why he deserves to be HLPOTY, even though he hasn't won a league player of the week award yet this season. It's most likely his last regular season series in his career at WSU; it may very well be our last shot to punch the Norse in the mouth. Certainly our guys remember how great it felt to end last year's regular season celebrating on NKU's floor and going to the HL tournament as the #1 seed. I think they probably also remember the flat out embarrassment that happened against UIC in the semifinals. Loudon remembers only scoring 6 points, missing 5 FTs, and playing limited minutes due to foul trouble.
Bottom line. Love needs to put this team on his back, play strong, make the easy shots, and get to the foul line when he can. We need an emphatic pair of victories to head into the tournament on the biggest high possible and show this league that even though their "magic formula" doesn't think we're the best team, that we ARE the best team, and an undersized and undermanned squad with only two consistent scorers that considers us their rival is not going to stand in the way of this freight train.

According to KenPom WSU has the quickest tempo in the HL during league games, and NKU has the slowest. Interested to see which style of basketball plays out.
WSU: 71.6 Possessions/40 minutes NKU: 65.2 Possessions/40 minutes

I haven't done a super thorough job of scouring the stats, but a relatively quick scan says that we win if we control the boards, limit turnovers, and get to the foul line -- the points then tend to follow.
