I always figure that the reason Nagy doesn't like to go deeper than 8 is that he plays a 'team game'. When you start subbing past 8 you're probably putting in a lineup that hasn't played much together either in practice or in games. A few years ago Calipari had two lineups. He subbed five players that had practiced together and functioned as a unit. I don't remember how that worked out but I thought it was interesting. The Calipari platoon team went 38-1, and was undefeated going into the NCAA tournament. Kentucky's only loss was in the semifinals to Wisconsin. I only know this because my wife is a UK season ticket holder and she always wonders why teams don't platoon more after Calipari was wildly successful with it. Obviously a small sample size, and there's probably only half a dozen programs whose "B team" could play half of the team's minutes and still go undefeated heading into the NCAA tournament. I agree that going 8 deep seems shortsighted. Nagy has a bit of a track record of playing a smaller rotation, and we've seen that scheme not treat us so well come March. Maybe there's some correlation there, maybe not.

In the Tenn Tech thread, Big D stated that both Voss and Wilbourn were unavailable. Anyone know why? I don't remember Voss playing any significant minutes since the Marshall game. My memory may be wrong on that, but he seems to have been MIA since then. Wilbourn has played, but his contributions have been disapointing, to say the least. Also, Huibregste and Noel have been in street clothes since the beginning of the season. What is going on with them? All in all, our bench has been a huge disappointment so far this season.

Voss and Wilbourn have both been fighting multiple minor injuries all season. I think both will be available for the start of HL play. Noel missed last season with an ACL injury. I don’t think he was quite back to 100% going into the season and our coaches decided to red shirt him. I’m not sure where we stand with Alex. He hasn’t played in several games and I haven’t heard what he injured forcing him to sit out. Since he only played the first few games of the season he is still eligible for a medical redshirt and our coaches might be conservative in holding him out leaving that as an option if needed. These would all be good questions for our staff at the next coaches show.
