Holy crap, the arena was empty. It looked like a women's game. I would think if they got good, there would be some interest in the program.

Nagy quote from story, "I went in (the locker room) and looked at our coaches and said, 'How dumb are we that we were going to redshirt him this year? We're not very smart, are we?" Nagy said with a laugh." Wow! Sounds like something straight out of Ted Lasso! I'm chalking this up as a huge win. Nagy really showed up for our team; instead of sticking to his plan, realizing he had the ability to fill a need and get this young man game-ready is not only remarkably not what he does historically, but shows his ability to adapt and understand the situation and resolve it instead of making more "we need to play better" style excuses. A commendable achievement, as small as it may seem.

I think it is a big achievement that Nagy was able to change his path. Most WSU coaches in the past have been very stubborn with their my-way-or-the-highway mentality. This team has two superstars and nine others that are quite capable. Would like to see them playing eleven players when all are healthy, leaving the walk-ons and Manns for mop up time. Would love to see two bigs on the floor at all times when Noel gets healthy. I think tomorrow will be the real test of Nagy's ability to get out of his comfort zone in order to win a game. Our defense is still not performing anywhere near where it needs to be for us to be a championship level team. I think our biggest concern should be our inability to stop guard penetration. We had no answer for Fort Wayne's PG and SG yesterday. The drove the lane at will and created easy inside shots for themselves or kicked it out to create wide open looks for their teammates. Our guards have not defended this well all year and our help defense has been less than effective. This is where we can be in serious trouble Saturday if we stick with our straight man to man defense vs CSU. That is mostly what their guards do. They are very aggressive going to the hoop trying to pick up high percentage shots and trying to create old fashion 3 point plays at the hoop. We struggled with that last season when our defense was much better than it currently is. Teams that CSU struggles with are zone defenses that force them to shoot from outside. They aren't very good 3 point shooters for the most part. We all know Nagy hates zone defense and is a die hard man to man guy. If he sticks to his old ways and we play strictly man to man, I don't think we are going to win tomorrow. If he at least mixes it up with some zone looks here and there, I think it gives us a much better chance to win.
